MMR MARCOYO
HuacayaHerdsire (Male)Dark Fawn
AOA# 824640, CLAA# CAN21204DOB: 7/22/200024 yrs
MMR Marcoyo, our very first herdsire. Although this male left us years ago, his remarkable genetics still plays an important role in our breeding program and in the North American industry.
A full-Peruvian herdsire out of the famous Victor’s Vaccoyo and Jolimont Peruvian Marcella, he was described by Janie Hicks, a leading Australian Fiber Researcher, as having an "advanced" fleece structure that typifies what progressive breeders are aiming for. With an athletic conformation, Marcoyo stamped his offspring’s fleeces with incredible architecture, superior staple length and density.
Only 2 of his daughters were exported to the US. One of them, Qolmesa Crystal, only started showing at 15-month-old, has earned a Judge’s Choice and 4 championships in some of the most competitive shows, including the Futurity and AOBA Nationals.
Even today, his descendants (although many generations after him) are still doing great things in the showings. He is the great-grand-sire of Judge’s Choice Gilbratar of FJA and behind the 2023 Buckeye Fall Classic Female Judge’s Choice. Considering only 2 of his offspring were exported to the US, he has certainly left his mark…
For several years, one of our breeding program’s goals was to produce a worthy replacement for this phenomenal herdsire. This foal was put aside and forgotten in the years following his death. By pure unexpected luck, a male named Noble Altitude du DNA was born in August 2023 out of his only remaining daughter in our program. Altitude resembles Marcoyo in every way, conformation and fleece traits. Do we finally have a true replacement?
