RETIRING 2009
PPPeruvian Sonoma 5042
HuacayaBred (Female)Beige
AOA# 139139DOB: 1/1/1993
Sonoma is one of our original foundation females and has been a cornerstone of our breeding program. She was part of the 1995 importation from Peru, originating from the Sollocoto Region. The first cria she produced for us was Aristocrat, our premier fawn herdsire by Accoyo Royal Fawn. What a way to get started!
Although Sonoma is now older, she still has that "regal" look to her. Her once extremely dense, crimpy, fine fiber took 1st place at the 1997 Michigan International Alpaca Fest Fleece Show. And, in spite of being a consistent producer of exceptional crias, her fiber would still class in Peru as "Superfine"! Now THAT is a Foundation Female!
She has been an excellent mom with abundant milk, producing crias that have had very strong growth patterns. We consider Sonoma to be one of Avalon Farm's very best foundation alpacas. In 2005 she gave us her third daughter in a row, Avalon's Peruvian Saleena...this time from Peruvian Lancaster. Two more daughters followed in 2006 and 2007. And, this year we were blessed with a fabulous herdsire quality male by our white champion, Avalon's Peruvian Impresario.
Although we had considered retiring Sonoma due to her age, we are so impressed with this Impresario son that we have decided to go for a repeat...maybe this time a fabulous daughter! Sonoma seems to love being a mother, so it's hard to think of retiring her when she can still produce great crias. No matter what, she has a home here at Avalon Farm as long as she needs one.
