Lola Falana was the kind of foundation girl that puts her all into producing award-winning cria. She was the daughter of an award winning grey sire, the mother of award winning crias, and a consistent and easy breeder. She would carry her pregnancies with consistently unassisted births. Her crias are healthy, calm, and independent. So much so, that we have decided to retire her from breeding until her eventual passing on our farm. One of our first alpacas, we appreciate all she did for us. We keep this listing here so that you can see all her great qualities in her offspring! === A 5 word summary: black, dense, shiny, crimpy, and gentle. She has beautifully glossy, dense and crimpy fiber -- amazing for a true black alpaca. Her fiber weight is solid, at just over 6 lbs. She passes her density and luster to her cria, while letting the service sire's fiber characteristics (like color, crimp, etc.) through. ** She is the Dam of our fantastic blue ribbon winner QP's "Who's Your Daddy" -- passing him her extremely long eyelashes and tufty ears and her calm nature. He has bred in earnest this year to several dams and we look forward to the dark, crimpy offspring next year. ** Her breeding to Imaginary Farms Legendary Monroe resulted in the 2006 arrival of Lola's beautiful grey tuxedo boy, named AutumnSuns Silver Dustdevil. Dusty has great facial coverage, true conformation, dark eyes, awesome crimp and shine, and not a spot of other color on his blanket. He was sold as a yearling to a farm interested in his fine and consistent fiber. ** In 2008 Lola gave us our exceptional rose grey girl by Kanaka, AutumnSun's Frosted Red Rose. As a juvenile old Rosie had already secured 3 reserve champion positions. We already have Rosie's 2010 service sire selected and cannot wait to see what Lola's Grand-cria will be like. ** In 2009 and Kanaka produced another beautiful female: AutumnSun's Summer Solstice. ...a rich caramel colored fawn color with her sire's white brow mark, she's fine, soft, shiny, and dense! She did not have as much crimp as her siblings, and so didn't make the show ring. But she was at a disadvantage, as Lola had acquired a tooth abscess in 2009 likely from a rock in the hay and pulled down in weight. In fact, with serious weight loss and strong antibiotics she was given, Lola lost her pregnancy that year. So, Summer had to wean off early. How, Summer has turned into a great mom herself now! ** In 2012, after being open for a couple of years, Lola birthed a cute as a button black male that we named AutumnSun's Building A Mystery (BAM). BAM BAM as the boys like to call him, is good on density, crimp, and coverage, with that exceptional shine Lola puts on her crias! We unfortunately lost Bam to a freak accident as a weanling. He was such a sweet, nice looking boy that we miss.

RC '16 AOA Fleece, CC '17 AOA Halter Maelstrom is a 13x champion, the 2016 AOA National Fleece Black Reserve Champion, and 2017 AOA National Halter Black Male Color Champion. His first fleece was measured in 2015 to be 18.81 AFD / 3.62 SD / 19.2% CoV. To bring home his banners, he combined awesome shiny, fine and uniform handle with tight crimp from his dam with Secret's inky-black similarly crimpy, shiny, and consistent fiber. Though both dam and sire have great coverage, Mael's head is credited to his sire's beautiful headstyle that cannot help but catch the eye. He is well conformed and balanced in his frame. Maelstrom has a lineage filled with champion banners, exceptional lineage, and black genetics. In Maelstrom, you have a list of "who's who" merging into a TRUE BLACK 7/8 Peruvian cornerstone herdsire. Maelstrom is the progeny of our multiple champion black herdsire Wolf Den's Dark Secret, who is the optimal result of the pairing of Dark Quest crossed with Othello bloodlines. His paternal grandsire is the well known Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest, son of the famous Snowmass Nova, son of Snowmass Peruvian Casanova. He is out of our lovely Fossil Ridge's Special K, a 7x champion fawn dam hailing from the multiple Champion Rumaki, a Royal Fawn son with the bloodlines of Presido and Felix. His crias have been stunning! Maelstrom's cria coloration to date is 88% black (TB or BB) from a black dam and 100% on our farm by dams whose pedigrees are known to produce black and/or are loaded in black. He has been bred to both black (49%) and non-black (51%) dams. When bred to the lighter colored dams (white, beige, light fawn) he produced crias darker than their dams 60% of the time, even some black crias! When his progeny have been bred to black, 100% of the descendants have been black. More than of one of his crias born to dams at our clients' farms have been described as "blue-black" in their owners glowing compliments.
Maelstrom is closed to outside breedings. He is not available for sale unless with the purchase of entire herd; in that event, no breedings will be allowed until he is paid off in full.

Description

Rose was a beautiful uniform medium rose grey with heathered legs, a white face / tuxedo markings, full leg / face coverage, and captivating 'movie star' dark eyes framed by adorable fuzzy ears. With high frequency / amplitude crimp consistent from head to tail, high luster for grey, and the handle of her fiber, she showed off uniformity of micron. Judges commented on her consistent micron and crimp style between white, brown, and black fibers in compliment to her fantastic density. This was not surprising from a pairing of champion Kanaka, son of grey champion Avatar, and Lola, one original foundation dams of several ribbon winning cria. Showing just 5 times (back in the timeframe where showing was only until breeding age of ~18 months old), from just over 6 months to 18 months old, she secured Reserve Champion 3 times among impressive competition and judged by several different notable judges. Her impressive show record demonstrates her consistent, quality fiber and conformation and stands as testimony. With her conformation, independent personality, easy birthing history, was a wonderful foundation dam. To compliment and amplify her fiber qualities, we chose only exemplary service sires. By Snowmass Enlightenment she produced Longbow, a regal male that looked just like her! He secured his own wins and produced his own fantastic crias. Bred to the note-worthy Patagonia's Lennox, Rosie produced a spectacular MB male, Smokejumper, who won several blue ribbons and banners in his maturity with lingering fineness that won halter and fleece champion banners, fleece Spirit of the Industry banners and even Judge's Choice! We lost this majestic male in a freak accident when he ran headlong into a fence post and broke his neck. He left us with 3 girls. From the incomparable Annual's Bea-2 Bomber, Rose produced a stunning LRG boy that we named Dauntless. He has taken home a slew of blue and purple ribbons and has produced lovely black, dark brown, and grey crias for us. Her 2019 cria with Secret was a CMSG brother to our 13x black champion herdsire, Maelstrom. Daedulus looked awesome but this special boy's show career was a 'victim' of our 2019 focus on our boys' 4H sheep program and the 2020's COVID-19 restrictions. We were happy to have found him the right home instead. In 2020, Rose finally graced us with a girl! This classic MRG girl looked just liked her and we were jumping in joy. Tragically, she had aspirated a little and seemed fine until the next day when she suffered respiratory distress and died suddenly. Forlorn, we have bred Rose back to Maelstrom in hopes lightening will strike twice in one place! Lastly, sadly, was a breeding never realized. In 2021, at the end of her pregnancy, Rosie birthed a grey male prematurely and then died in the next day. It appears that she had cancer and tried to have her last cria but couldn't make it to term. It was a very sad day for us, for losing a very special dam.
