The legendary grey herdsire, Snowmass Enlightenment, is bringing his power packed genetics to the West Coast! "Enlightenment is the most significant grey stud we've ever produced." -- Snowmass Alpacas "Best male in the show. This stunning male combines perfect conformation and magnificent fleece. He is the 'Total Package'." -- Kentucky Classic Judge "If you could put all the best performing, most unique blend of genetics into one stud for the most advanced color breeding program...that is exactly what Snowmass did and the result is nothing short of magnificent!" -- Prior Owner "If we could have a Royal grey line of alpacas, Enlightenment is what it would take to get us there!" -- Julie Skinner His selling at the 2009 Futurity Auction by Snowmass was "...a true commitment to keep him in the breeding pool of Elite grey males in the USA as [we] slowly move out of breeding for grey." -- Snowmass Alpacas Snowmass Enlightenment, a multi-champion, is the product of generations of superior genetic development. Follow up his line to his multi-champion sire and 2X Futurity Herdsire of the Year, Snowmass XXXtreme, who was sired by multi-champion Snowmass Royal Rose, who was in turn sired by the incomparable Peruvian Hemingway. And lest we forget his dam, Snowmass Silver Star, sired by Snowmass Casanova, who was sired by Peruvian Bueno, brings rich grey and color genetics herself. In 2009, Enlightenment won the AOBA Reserve Color Championship at 54 months just after taking a Championship at the Kentucky Classic Show. He was the highest selling alpaca at the 2009 Futurity Auction, taking in over double the price of the next closest male. Enlightenment has produced a multitude of champion offspring in all colors, starting with his 2nd cria, Snowmass Enlightened - a rose grey 12X Champion who has gone on to be a great herdsire in his own right. A female cria, KBA Enlightened, went on to win 10 Championships and produce the top selling grey at the 2015 Parade of Champions Auction (for $47,500). He's produced champion offspring in every year since he started breeding (see photos to right). Some recent shows/sales for his offspring: -- 2013 MAPACA Jubilee - 2 of the 6 Judge's Choice entries were Enlightenment offspring -- 2014 AOA National Auction - an Enlightenment female was 4th highest seller and won a championship at the show (to go along with her 4 other banners) -- 2015 Parade of Champions Auction - an Enlightenment grandson was the highest selling full-interest alpaca This herdsire is one of the few grey males to come on the scene and make everyone's head turn. He's that good. Contact us for your opportunity to make Enlightenment's incredible genetics work to improve your color/grey program. Enlightenment is co-owned by Epic Alpacas, Morning Beckons, and Providence Alpacas. His cria are now hitting the ground at Epic Alpacas and the fleeces are spectacular: fine, bright, dense and tons of crimp! We love this guy!

Rose was a beautiful uniform medium rose grey with heathered legs, a white face / tuxedo markings, full leg / face coverage, and captivating 'movie star' dark eyes framed by adorable fuzzy ears. With high frequency / amplitude crimp consistent from head to tail, high luster for grey, and the handle of her fiber, she showed off uniformity of micron. Judges commented on her consistent micron and crimp style between white, brown, and black fibers in compliment to her fantastic density. This was not surprising from a pairing of champion Kanaka, son of grey champion Avatar, and Lola, one original foundation dams of several ribbon winning cria. Showing just 5 times (back in the timeframe where showing was only until breeding age of ~18 months old), from just over 6 months to 18 months old, she secured Reserve Champion 3 times among impressive competition and judged by several different notable judges. Her impressive show record demonstrates her consistent, quality fiber and conformation and stands as testimony. With her conformation, independent personality, easy birthing history, was a wonderful foundation dam. To compliment and amplify her fiber qualities, we chose only exemplary service sires. By Snowmass Enlightenment she produced Longbow, a regal male that looked just like her! He secured his own wins and produced his own fantastic crias. Bred to the note-worthy Patagonia's Lennox, Rosie produced a spectacular MB male, Smokejumper, who won several blue ribbons and banners in his maturity with lingering fineness that won halter and fleece champion banners, fleece Spirit of the Industry banners and even Judge's Choice! We lost this majestic male in a freak accident when he ran headlong into a fence post and broke his neck. He left us with 3 girls. From the incomparable Annual's Bea-2 Bomber, Rose produced a stunning LRG boy that we named Dauntless. He has taken home a slew of blue and purple ribbons and has produced lovely black, dark brown, and grey crias for us. Her 2019 cria with Secret was a CMSG brother to our 13x black champion herdsire, Maelstrom. Daedulus looked awesome but this special boy's show career was a 'victim' of our 2019 focus on our boys' 4H sheep program and the 2020's COVID-19 restrictions. We were happy to have found him the right home instead. In 2020, Rose finally graced us with a girl! This classic MRG girl looked just liked her and we were jumping in joy. Tragically, she had aspirated a little and seemed fine until the next day when she suffered respiratory distress and died suddenly. Forlorn, we have bred Rose back to Maelstrom in hopes lightening will strike twice in one place! Lastly, sadly, was a breeding never realized. In 2021, at the end of her pregnancy, Rosie birthed a grey male prematurely and then died in the next day. It appears that she had cancer and tried to have her last cria but couldn't make it to term. It was a very sad day for us, for losing a very special dam.

Description

Longbow is eye-catching in his proud stance and uniform coloration. The reduction of spots on greys in the show ring has been remarkable with a solid blanket being more common, but Longbow still stands out for his extremely uniform rose grey color as his coat is an even 'roaning' heather without spots. With our champion Frosted Red Rose as his dam and Snowmass Enlightenment as his sire, you can see the strong resemblance! He also inherited his dam's fine, uniform fiber, and a high-frequency crimp from staple to tip all across his blanket. Both Rosie and Longbow have excellent consistency of ratio of micron between light and dark fibers for an markedly smooth handle. His high frequency crimp as well as his fineness are uniform across his blanket and extends from his hips to his shoulders -- another thing that he has gotten from his dam, so his prime fiber clip is extensive. Longbow is well conformed, with a solid frame and proud carriage, easy movement and strong bones, and good bite and nice head. His dark eyes are decorated with a mesmerizing 'bedroom eyes' eyeliner of dark fiber, with his wedge head, spear ears, and good coverage showing an attractive head without any of the wool-blind (wooly face) concerns. Even the fact that he unfortunately lost the very tip of his left ear to frostbite as a newborn still does not detract from his overall beautiful, classic face. Bow is proven, having bred on our farm and fellow farms in the area to produce several very nice crias. The crias have ranged from very nice (good show quality/excellent foundation) to 'Oh, amazing' in fleece qualities. At a marketing event, we sold two breedings on the spot after the farm saw and touched him. He has produced black crias from black dams, a dark rose grey from a DSG dam, a fawn-grey from a LRG dam, and a fawn from a DRG dam. Though he never really got to shine out in the ring, we knew that he had somethings special. When we pulled a sample from Bow's 2015 clip we were amazed with how much fineness, crimp, density, uniformity and staple as a mature stud. The judges agree since, in our pleased amazement, he secured Color Champion in grey at the 2016 GWAS fleece show! Bow never got the opportunities he deserved, and we lost him before he had the chance to go to another farm.
