RC '16 AOA Fleece, CC '17 AOA Halter Maelstrom is a 13x champion, the 2016 AOA National Fleece Black Reserve Champion, and 2017 AOA National Halter Black Male Color Champion. His first fleece was measured in 2015 to be 18.81 AFD / 3.62 SD / 19.2% CoV. To bring home his banners, he combined awesome shiny, fine and uniform handle with tight crimp from his dam with Secret's inky-black similarly crimpy, shiny, and consistent fiber. Though both dam and sire have great coverage, Mael's head is credited to his sire's beautiful headstyle that cannot help but catch the eye. He is well conformed and balanced in his frame. Maelstrom has a lineage filled with champion banners, exceptional lineage, and black genetics. In Maelstrom, you have a list of "who's who" merging into a TRUE BLACK 7/8 Peruvian cornerstone herdsire. Maelstrom is the progeny of our multiple champion black herdsire Wolf Den's Dark Secret, who is the optimal result of the pairing of Dark Quest crossed with Othello bloodlines. His paternal grandsire is the well known Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest, son of the famous Snowmass Nova, son of Snowmass Peruvian Casanova. He is out of our lovely Fossil Ridge's Special K, a 7x champion fawn dam hailing from the multiple Champion Rumaki, a Royal Fawn son with the bloodlines of Presido and Felix. His crias have been stunning! Maelstrom's cria coloration to date is 88% black (TB or BB) from a black dam and 100% on our farm by dams whose pedigrees are known to produce black and/or are loaded in black. He has been bred to both black (49%) and non-black (51%) dams. When bred to the lighter colored dams (white, beige, light fawn) he produced crias darker than their dams 60% of the time, even some black crias! When his progeny have been bred to black, 100% of the descendants have been black. More than of one of his crias born to dams at our clients' farms have been described as "blue-black" in their owners glowing compliments.
Maelstrom is closed to outside breedings. He is not available for sale unless with the purchase of entire herd; in that event, no breedings will be allowed until he is paid off in full.

AutumnSun's Carnaval

HuacayaOpen (Female)Medium Fawn
AOA# 35160441DOB: 7/3/20168 yrs
13x CH G.Thunder girl! Petite in her juvie and yearling days, she is well grown and filled out nicely for her career as a breeding dam. Her fleece too has been getting better and better in crimp definition, exhibiting fineness, uniformity and density. Carnival is a delight to touch and has the fiber to take on the 'big farms' -- shown by her placement in walking fleece above a multiple champion female of 'royalty' bloodlines. Judge's comments from one of her first shows as juvie shows one of her fiber qualities... brightness ..."light shining in your eyes!", "so soft to the touch"..... Her beautiful 2020 girl is just as shiny and soft as she was as a juvenile. We are thrilled to have her, especially as she is our last Smokejumper offspring and only one of three (fortunately all girls). We named her Torch Glow as a nod to her sire as well as in recognition of her shine. Glow has since produced her own beautiful girls. To keep that trend going, we bred Carnaval to our Axios, another herd member notable for his shine and softness. We had hoped for another beautiful golden girl or even a grey or black since both Carnaval and Axios have grey heritage and Carnaval also has dark coloration. Our cria by Axios came right on time -- a boy with bay black coloration. His fiber has a lovely shine, density and crimp. Though we always hope for girls we were happy with this outcome. Our sadness is that he suffered an inner ear infection that made him miss out on showing and has given him a slight head tilt (forever eliminating him from showing). In the interest of exploring her potential for dark crias, we bred her to our champion Maelstrom to produce a very nice bay black girl that has be a strong girl since birth! We have high hopes for our lovely Milagros in our black breedings in her future. We reluctantly added her to our auction listings in 2025, as we only take the best alpacas we can, but partially hope she will not sell! We loved the look of our Axios crias, so we bred her that way for a lovely bay black girl this year! Needless to say, we are happy to keep this girl too!

Description

Here is what Autumn Sun had to say about this pretty female... Milagros is a sweet-natured, dark maiden just shy of bay black -- not unexpected since her sire is true black 13x RC/CC AutumnSun’s Black Maelstrom and her dam has been shown to produce black cria in the past. Her pedigree is solidly rooted in dark coloration with several generations of black in her sire’s line to include Wolf Den’s Dark Secret, Othello, and Snowmass Nova’s Dark Quest. Her dam’s lineage boasts color and greys, to include Sunset Hills Golden Thunder and Kaspa. Therefore, we were not surprised that Milagros’ genotype testing reported Ee aa -- a partially dilute black. Bred to our 26x RC/CC Estates Stradivarius, who is EE aa, she will certainly make a black cria. We also have had only black crias from our 2x RC AutumnSun’s Guinness, also a good candidate for Milagros’ exclusive maiden breeding to one our champion herdsires. With her solid conformation, typey good looks, robust frame, and excellent fiber qualities of crimp, density, and length to benefit your show and breeding program, she will produce a fantastic cria no matter which of our herdsires you select!
