I've never tried the process of raku, but admire the unexpected possibilities and beauty of the resulting markings and colors. This was one of those breeding outcomes where you rather hoped for a boy - with the same possibilities and beauty of desired color and markings, and we got one - a very nice one in the color for which we'd also hoped - grey! And, the gorgeous fleece and conformation qualities of both sire and dam have combined beautifully. Morning SKY's Paulina's Raku is the offspring of two stunning and prolific greys who have won Judges' Choice banners in halter and fleece competitions. Both parents are Futurity Color Champions, too! Raku's first offspring, Morning SKY's Raku's Mercer, is a strong, healthy brown female with bright, crimpy fleece. Mercer was awarded a second place ribbon at the 2025 Buckeye Alpaca Show, with judge Wade Gease complimenting her “very long staple length and very stamped-out fleece style”. Buckeye Judge Amanda VandenBosch loved Mercer's fleece, praising her soft handle and uniformity from shoulder to rump and down to her extremities. Raku's dam, Morning SKY's Paulina is the first grey in the US (in 2012) to be awarded a Judges' Choice banner in halter competition, and the only grey female in the US for ten years running. She also received a Judge's Choice banner for Best Hand at the large MAPACA fleece show. Paulina began her show career at 6 months of age with Color Champion banners that continued through her second year of showing. Among many other awards, her dam, Morning SKY's Royale Ainee (also grey), took a first place at the World Fleece Conference in 2009. Raku's sire, Quixotic's Man of Steel, is the third grey to win a Judge's Choice banner in halter and also had a stellar show career over multiple years. His grandsire, Quixotic, won numerous awards over his career as evidenced by his photo. At the 2020 Buckeye Fall Fest, Raku placed second in a yearling class. (Covid prevented him from showing as a juvenile.) Judge Laurel Shouvlin commented that Raku was well grown for his age, very well put together, demonstrated good proportion and had a fine, very soft handling fleece with a good degree of brightness. Judge Amanda VandenBosch also spoke of his softness of hand at the 2020 Buckeye Alpaca Show. As a 2 year old at the 2022 MABA Alpaca Celebration, judge Robin Nasemann complimented his very fluid conformation and uniform staple from skin to tip as he awarded Raku a first place blue ribbon. Raku also earned a first place ribbon under judge Diana Timmerman at the 2022 PAOBA Breeder's Showcase, at the 2022 MA & PA Alpaca Pronk. Fine!

Morning SKY's Taddeo's Elena

HuacayaOpen (Female)Beige
AOA# 32806663DOB: 7/3/20159 yrs
Beautiful daughter of our fine and extremely dense champion and Judges' Choice herdsire, Morning SKY's Taddeo and our late, fine dam, Silvercloud Farm's Danielle. Elena shows the best of both parents with her impressive fleece, soft hand and calm temperament. She was awarded a third place ribbon at the 2016 AOA National Show, another proud result of our breeding program. Elena's first cria, Morning SKY's Nazca, is our Taddeo line crossed with our late full Accoyo herdsire, Angelis. This produced a white male who is loaded with heavy cutting fleece that is blindingly bright and reminiscent of that of his grand sire, Morning SKY's Taddeo, and his great grand dam, Morning SKY's Grand Alera - both winners of Judges' Choice banners for Best Brightness at large MAPACA fleece shows. Elena had a textbook birth of a beautiful, light brown female cria on May 29, 2023 by Morning SKY’s Paulina’s Raku, son of two Judges’ Choice grey parents. Morning SKY's Raku's Mercer has curly fleece and has been strong from the get go! Mercer placed very respectably at the Buckeye Alpaca Shows with a 2nd place in 2025 and a 3rd place in 2024 due to her very long staple length, and fleece style. A repeat breeding of Elena to Raku is definitely in order!

Description

Mercer is READY TO BE BRED and will be an asset to any grey or colored breeding program! She is Raku's first offspring and a rebreed is in order! Mercer was a textbook birth and strong - standing on almost her first try and nursing in short order, all unassisted. In her class at the 2025 Buckeye Alpaca Show and in the good company of many other banner winners, Mercer was awarded 2nd Place behind the Color Champion. In his comments, judge Wade Gease complimented Mercer’s “very long staple length and very stamped-out fleece style”. Mercer's paternal granddam is Morning SKY's Paulina - the first grey in the country to be awarded a Judges' Choice banner in halter competition. Paulina was also awarded a Judges' Choice banner at the large MAPACA fleece show for Best Hand, as well as numerous Color Champion banners over two show years, including The Futurity. Mercer's paternal grandsire is the highly decorated A&A Quixotic's Man of Steel - also a Judge's Champion award winner, Futurity Champion, and a very prolific herdsire. Mercer's maternal granddam is the late Silvercloud Farm's Danielle - a fine, beautiful white female who gave birth to gorgeous offspring, including our late Color Champion, Morning SKY's Design. Mercer's maternal grandsire is Morning SKY's Taddeo - a dense and incredibly bright white Color Champion, MAPACA Judges' Choice fleece winner for Best Brightness (just like his dam), multiple Reserve Champion awardee, and Junior Herdsire award winner. He is the son of Alpaca Palace's Houdini and Best Brightness Judges' Choice fleece award winner, Morning SKY's Grande Alera. Mercer's sire is Morning SKY's Paulina's Raku - the firstborn cria of Quixotic's Man of Steel, a two-time blue ribbon winner and beautifully conformed male with lovely grey fleece. Mercer's dam is Morning SKY's Elena - a cross of fineness and density. Elena's desirable beige fleece is accompanied by her calm, desirable temperament. At the 2024 Buckeye Alpaca Show, Mercer placed third, right behind the Color Champion and Reserve Champion! Judge Amanda VandenBosch praised her fleece for its softness and for its uniformity from shoulder to rump and down her extremities. Although we do live in Mercer County, in keeping with the pottery theme of her sire's name, Mercer was named after the creative founder of the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works (now The TileWorks of Bucks County), Henry Chapman Mercer. Don’t hesitate to add this beautiful girl to YOUR herd!!!
