At Autumn Sun Alpacas, we know that is no secret that this true black herdsire is an all-around package that you will want to cover any dam, light or dark colored! Secret is a black that had no fading at his tips or interspersed white fibers when he was showing (he's getting a few 'old man' white hairs now). This isn't surprising with a lineage that includes notable black sires like Othello, recently deceased, and Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest. With his distinctive head and leg coverage, along with his inky black fiber, many stopped and stared at Secret the ring. And worthy of that attention, his fiber has extreme density, bright shine, bundled crimp, and soft handle. These are traits that you want to add or amplify in your breeding program! This is obvious in the 10x champion true black son, AutumnSun's Black Maelstrom. We were fortunate to have had our program benefit from such an exceptional offspring, especially as he was just one of only a few we have performed to Secret! We have the fortune of several excellent herdsires, including grey and black, so Secret has had to be patient. And, Maelstrom is just as a precocious stud just as his sire, as both started breeding under 2 years old. Father and son both breed black well into our program. As our Secret is getting up there in years and we we don't want to overtax him (he is still breeding for us), we are closing him to outside breedings.

AutumnSun's Sweet Patriotic Song

HuacayaOpen (Female)White
AOA# 31422710DOB: 8/27/200816 yrs
With glowing fleece and calm, easy-going personality, Song was born big (~22 lbs at birth and ~90 lbs at 9 mos) & grew at an amazing pace. She is well conformed, with a strong and straight frame even in her maturity. She has been a fantastic mom, just like her own mom and daughters. Song is the dam the you can build whole programs from, one that just keeps producing. She has had predominately white crias for us but that is due to the way she was bred. Don't be fooled by this into thinking that she is a white production dam. Her first cria was a true black female sired by a dark brown male. Her dam also produced a dark brown male sired by a grey stud. Both her dam and sire have a lineage infused with color genetics. In fact, her sire produced dark brown and bay black when bred to color. Song is worthy of praise as a production 'cornerstone' dam, so I will compliment her by praise of her progeny's exceptional traits. Regardless of color, her crias have all been desirable, some at champion levels in the show ring. They also have her spot-on confirmation, solid bones, and great coverage. Notably, her stud son Supermassive lives up to his name in conformation and coverage, as he was described by a judge as 'rooted to the ground'. Supermassive passed these traits -- in addition to an unusually long, decidedly crimpy, fiber -- to Superluminal. 'Luminal had so much fiber as a weanling that it threw off his 'boxy look' and one judge that awarded him high marks also said he would be much better once his (5 lb!) cria fleece was shorn off. Danica is another offspring that stood out from the crowd as a cria for her vitality as she literally ran around Song while learning how to nurse as newborn. Danica went on to win two banners against significant competition. Fresca, a light fawn girl from Song's daughter Aika produced fiber that was dense, crimpy and long but also so shiny that one's eye was drawn to it like to sunlight. Song's girl, Melody, went on to produce a spectacularly fleeced male, such that we kept her open for years while attempting to coordinate our timing with the stud's farm for another breeding. Eirwen, daughter of our champion black male Dark Secret is white but carries the black genetics with the same fantastic fiber and breeding potential. Song, and her dam before her, have been well loved and well bred on our farm, truly producing a cornerstone in our herd. Eirwen: 2018 (cria) 19.5 um / 5" staple; 2019 (1st) 20.1 um / 4.5" Aika (LF): 2018 (4th fleece) 18.5 um / 3.5" Fresca (LF g.daughter): 2018 (cria) 16.2 um / 5" Danica (WH): 2016 (cria) 17.8 um / 5"; 2018 (2nd) 21.5 um / 4" Tyson (DB 1/2 brother): 2016 (2nd) 20.8 um / 4" Muster (WH g.son): 2017: 15.8 um / 4" in 8 mos growth; 2018 (1st): 17.9 um/ 4" Supermassive (LF): 2014 (2nd): 21.1um / 3.5" Superluminal (WH g.son): 2018 (cria): 16.3 um / 6" Song produces Black!!

Stunning fleece on a power packed compact body. He demonstrated this with his Color Champion win at the 2019 AOA National Fleece Show. He has proven his ability to produce black with his blue-black boy out of our Che Bella! Sadly we cannot repeat this breeding as we lost our girl suddenly this year. But we are holding Concerto close to our vest to see if we have a contender for our herdsire row. But not one to put all our eggs in one basket, Guinness's breeding list was full this year and he is our most bred stud in the breeding plan! He is hot stuff and he knows it, with his macho attitude!

Description

Eirwen is the daughter of our multiple champion black herdsire, Dark Secret, who has sired many greys and black offspring (including out multiple champion Black Maelstrom). So, whereas we had hoped Eirwen would be black (as her dam has produced black before), we are still hopeful that Eirwen can produce black (with her dark lips and nose in evidence that she carries some dark genetics). Eirwen's dam is our Song, a foundation girl in our herd. Her half-sister Danica produces babies that 'knock it out of the park' every time. Her first girl, Isolde, a dark fawn by Stradivarius, has lovely fiber but didn't make our show string as a juvenile (we run a small string) -- in favor of her MB cousin, Oraine, daughter of Danica, who later sold in the Amber Autumn Auction that year. But as a yearling Isolde was sold in The Futurity auction. Then, Eirwen produced another DF girl, by our modern rose grey, Judge, that also has spectacular fiber. This girl, named Alys, suffered a cold at a couple of months old. Unfortunately, when we thought Alys was getting better, we lost her suddenly. This year we bred Eirwen to Axios, not a black but a stellar male that has produced excellent offspring in dark color to include black. Her cria is a a beautiful fawn roan girl. Axios has been producing amazing crias! We only have her on the sales list because we have Song and Danica but question that decision daily. As this 2024 cria develops we get closer to reconsidering.
