The focus of our close to 20 year breeding program has been fleece - fine fleece, dense fleece, fleece with a long staple length & fleece that is consistent in fineness, crimp & color. Our primary focus has been fleece. When cria are born, we evaluate them on their fleece quality & conformation - color is often a bonus & has not been a focus for us. So when we got that "gotta have a grey" compulsion and began looking for a grey herd sire to breed to some of our best fleeced girls who have generations of ancestors here on the farm, we had some very high expectations in mind. We don't want to just produce greys. We don't want to just produce a nice grey. We want to be able to produce nice greys as consistently as we've produced elite fleeced whites & fawns. When I saw Mattie for the first time, I was impressed. When I felt Mattie for the first time, I was in love. Then the research began & the fleece samples were requested & the micron reports were gone over with a fine toothed comb. It quickly became evident to me that Mattie could produce beautifully fleeced cria consistently for our farm. His fleece is exquisite. With a low micron and a low CV, his fleece has a buttery feel & an uncommonly soft handle, especially for a grey. His staple length rivals some of the best at my farm. He has consistent, tight crimp & has few spots on his blanket. Mattie's genetics are among the best in the business. His sire is Lancaster, owned by Flying Pony, whose genetics are so sought after, he has over 300 cria. Mattie is among only 6 grey males that Lancaster has ever produced. Lancaster's sire is Conan whom we've admired for years. We have several Conan offspring here on the farm and rarely part with these genetics. Mattie's dam is a ribbon winner herself who has produced gorgeous cria including a Judge's Choice winner. We are proud to co-own Mattie with Gentle Breeze Alpacas & Out of Sight Alpacas.

Penny simply has awesome fiber. It is incredibly bright, crimpy, soft and dense - some of the best fiber we've had born here on our farm. We were especially excited with her color, a beautiful fawn, since both her dam and sire are white. Penny is one quarter Accoyo and three quarters Alianza. Her maternal grandsire is 4Peruvian Accoyo's Juliaca, an import to Westwool's Alpacas, perhaps the most respected alpaca farm in all of Canada. Because of his Canadian location, Juliaca's genetics are rare here in the U.S. Penny's sire, WRA Peruvian Nekuta, is a Hemingway grandson. Yet another reason for Penny's elite fleece. Penny's fleece continues to show her fine breeding - most recently with a color champion banner at the Este's Park Fleece Show 2008, a reserve color champion banner at Alpaca Fest West and Judge's Choice at MOPACA 2008! She now has eight blue ribbons! Penny had her first cria in the summer 2008, a gorgeous girl out of our beige full Accoyo 8X champion, Invasion. You can only imagine the fiber on this little girl, Sarah. It's spectacular! Sarah was sold before she was even weaned. Penny has proven herself to be an excellent mom - very attentive with plenty of milk. She also is one of those easy-to-get-bred girls. Her second cria, Bo Jangles, a fawn, is equally as nice. Bo was also sold before he was weaned and now is a color champion himself. Her 2010 cria, Shilling, has simply knock-out crimpy, bright fleece. Also sold as a weanling, Shilling has been shown by his new owners and done well in the showring! We've been so impressed with our Grey Matter cria that we bred Penny to him this year. We are crossing our fingers for grey, but any color cria should have fantastic fleece because the genetics for elite fleece are so strong on both sides of the pedigree.

Description

I wish I could take credit for this pairing, but it was John's idea. Normally I breed Penny, one of our best fawn females to a white or fawn boy with exceptional fleece. The results have always been good! John loves GreyMatter and encouraged me to try him on Penny this year, boy-oh-boy, was I glad I listened to him! I had no idea Penny had it in her to produce black - and a black with crazy crimpy, dense fiber at that! Simplicity's dam, Penny is a muli-champion girl who earned the highest accolade at a fleece show - The Judge's Choice Award. This means out of all of the fleeces in the entire show, the judge like hers above all the others. She also has 8 blue ribbons to her name. Simplicity's sire, Shooting Star's Peruvian GreyMatter is a simply gorgeous male who has thrown outrageous cria for us this year. He is a Lancaster son and also has a touch of Alianza in him. Add this to Penny's lineage, a bunch of Alianza and Accoyo, and you've got a genetic masterpiece - in black! Simplicity is straight as an arrow with a perfect bite and some of the best fleece I've ever seen on a black. She's got zipper crimp that is consistent and fine throughout her entire blanket. I love this spunky little girl! She comes with a breeding to the Ideuma Creek herdsire of your choice.
