Congratulations to Sue & Bob Evon and Brenda & Ron Berg of Alpacas of NH on the purchase of Bellatrix and her awesome daughter, American Chrome. Bellatrix is the fourth awesome daughter of our foundation dam, Grace. Grace has produced the best on our farm, with four true blacks and three silver greys. Her kids are consistently in the front row in the show ring, with many firsts, and color championships to their credit. Bellatrix has a big job ahead of her to keep up with her older siblings. Her sire, Xanadu After Hours, has been quietly producing some awesome kids the last couple of years, and because we've sold all the girls that we've bred to him, we've had to watch his kids grow up in other breeders fields. Grace made us proud yet again, and Bellatrix is her '08 contribution to our cria crop. Because of the consistent quality of Grace's kids, we've named them all after stars or constellations, and Bellatrix follows suit. She is a stylish young female with the signature compact frame, and stunning head that is typical of After Hours kids. Her fleece is exceedingly bright, and crimpy with a buttery handle consistent with Grace's kids. The fleeces from this dam line are some of the first to be snapped up by hand spinners. This girl was a standout in the show ring. Judge Amy Bliss Miller placed her first in conformation at the Alpaca Affaire Composite show, saying that she was happy to see this girl's fleece score come in at the top of the class as well, cementing her first place finish in the class of combined blacks and browns. She went on to grab the color Championship as well. She just got better with maturity placing 2nd and Reserve Color Champion at Alpaca Showcase under Australian black huacaya breeder, Peter Kennedy. She is now firmly settled in our foundation girl lineup, and produced an awesome silver grey male out of her breeding to Bisturi. Bella produced a stunning silver grey male out of her breeding to Lanark's Silver Charm for 2012. Her 2014 contribution is a beautiful silver grey female, American Chrome.

Description

Wow, another home run for Bellatrix. This year's contribution to the cria crop is a striking silver grey male we named JEB Stuart. Named after the Confederate General, "JEB" Stuart, he continues to WOW us. At 3 months now, he is one of those youngsters you can't miss in the pasture. Proven Sire: Lanark's Silver Charm needs no introduction to breeders who have an interest in producing quality grey fleeced alpacas. Charm, has infused the breeding programs of many successful breeders focusing on grey, and he is most notably known for his dense, soft fleece with lingering fineness. With our industry cutting its teeth on the expanding fiber industry, we feel strongly that this is a trait we need to maintain. Charm unfortunately died in the winter of 2011 so JEB is among a select group of his final offspring including our own Dolly Madison. Impact Dam: Bellatrix adds her own heady dose of quality genetics to JEB with her pedigree boasting bloodlines from the Peruvian greats Caligula, Presidio, Guellermo & Yupanqui. Add to these the solid black and grey genetics that fill the remaining slots on her ARI, and you have a boy with a powerful pedigree and much potential down the road in the breeding pen. He has a strong balanced frame, with perfect conformation and a stunning head. He is a large boned boy, and covered in a wonderfully soft, slick handling fleece with excellent staple length. Already at only 3 months his organized, crimpy fleece is consistent hip to shoulder, throughout his blanket, and clear under his belly. He will be fun to have in the developing cria pen, and we're thrilled to have him join the 2013 Stonyridge Show team. Experienced breeders understand the importance of a pedigree packed with predictable genetics, and this boy has an ARI certificate loaded to the max. Definitely one to watch, and deserving of a run in the breeding pen. If you are looking for quality bloodlines with a focus on grey, JEB is worth a look.
