Troubadour's Riddler

The best way to introduce Riddler is to state that he is the embodiment of our ideal alpaca in terms of structure, conformation and breed type. He will be used as a representative to illustrate our breed standard. Riddler's sire, Troubadour, ranks among the most prepotent alpacas that I am aware of today. This is due, I believe, to the awesome fusion of his incredibly powerful dam line with his highly unusual sire line. Troubadour's dam, El Nino's Precious Gem-Stone, is, as her name suggests, a daughter of the great El Nino. A 7x CH, 3x JC winner in her own right, she is also full sister to BHA Peruvian White Thunder, a herdsire who has become known for stamping his get with ideal bone and breed type. Thus, Troubadour's dam line is massively prepotent for build, breed type and coverage -- not to mention the density and crimp. His sire line seals the deal. Lilly's Accoyo Dupioni is a son of (Accoyo) PPPeruvian Lilly 4605, a true impact dam whose offspring include Peruvian Snowmaster. Dupioni's sire is Elitus, a little-used in-utero Alianza import. That renowned Accoyo/Alianza worked, as it often does, and, blended with the Accoyo/Alianza/Anticalla cross of Gem Stone, gave Troubadour locked-in excellence in just about every category. ... Of course, it takes two, and Riddler's modern grey dam -- a granddaughter of impact black sire, 4P Black Magic -- is, herself, an outstanding animal, beautifully built, with lasting fineness. It's a cross that worked, and here he is: Riddler, a living example of our phenotypic ideal. His bone is awesome. His conformation is really, truly faultless; not only is he truly straight all around, but his proportions are perfect, the 3/3/3 division that is one of the key traits of our ideal alpaca. So, too, is the head, and Riddler has it. His head is perfect -- yes, perfect. His bone and coverage are fantastic. He began his breeding career at age two, settling females easily – no great surprise, given his outstanding reproductive development – another key trait in our ideal. Alpacas are fleece animals, though, so, as ideal as he is in all other regards, if the fleece didn't stack up, he wouldn't be here – so good thing it does. Riddler is fine … Yes, ideally fine. His 1st fleece AFD was 13.7 microns. His 2nd fleece is still making the show rounds, so it hasn't been tested yet, but his 3rd looks like it is holding steady at a good 19-20 AFD – and uniform, too. Then, there is his density. He has it: 74.3 sq/mm per Ian Watt (biopsy report under "Histogram"). Riddler's cria have started to arrive, on our farm and in PA. They are. *All.* Awesome. This male is unbelievable. Stay tuned.

So this little girl First off - Sire side CCNF Smoking Gun Halo may have a tux gene lurking behind her harlequin exterior. A Well celebrated sire. And the Dam... is where the "color" comes from. In the way back - Amy Carter D119*. Halo is a solid little pistol of a female. And she has groovy coloring. Compact but sturdy frame with big bone and cute as a button. You honestly would never guess she will be 14 this year. She had a daughter in 2022 sired by Troubadour's Riddler. (she and 13 other females from kitt were bred by a fence jumping Riddler in the two months before they shipped. LOL) I think it was one of the more challenging deliveries I have ever done. Upside down and backwards. So facing forward, belly up. Mama was as patient as she could have been but did not look me in the eye for a solid two weeks. Regardless she was a GREAT mama with plenty of milk. I named the cria Wayshower (get it?) :) Wayshower is a very nice spotted (mildly) female. Coveted (by me) for her spots and her really well organized and bright fleece. (15.7/3.8/24.4/100%) Her Mom will be bred again this season (2024) to Man of Mystery. And we look forward to those fireworks. Pic is of Halo carrying Wayshower; 3/2022 (12 years)
