This is Apollo, another knockout boy sired by the great .38 Special. I had originally purchased Apollo with the intention of using him to get a jump start on infusing the .38 line into my herd, as he is a year older than our .38 Harmony, the rose gray .38 son who redefined my view of gray fleece. In light of some new grey acquisitions, as difficult as it is, I have decided to list Apollo up for sale. Part of what makes this guy so very difficult to sell is his personality. His disposition is what I consider ideal: calm, outgoing, confident and friendly. He loves girls and he absolutely loves eating. He gets along great with the other boys -- neither a bully nor a pushover. I've already sung the praises of Apollo's sire, .38 Special, in my writeup on his brother Harmony, but to recap: the 15 Championships and 2 Judges' Choice awards mean a lot less to me than the fact that his get are so consistently phenomenal. They have ideal conformation, they have excellent bone, and moreover, they have this amazing combination of fineness, uniformity, and staple length that doesn't come around too often in any color -- let alone gray. I like this line so much that I wanted two SONS, which ought to say something. Apollo's dam is pretty cool, too. She is a beautifully put together granddaughter of Charles P. Atlas (winner of quite a few Get of Sire awards, among his championships), and the rest of her pedigree is a unique blend of Bolivian, Peruvian, and ... Suri!? As elite pedigrees become tighter, these quality outcrosses will become increasingly valuable. Now, back to Apollo. Here are the things that make me want to keep him: His conformation is absolutely faultless. His proportions are perfect; he is shaped like a box. He is extremely compact -- the EXACT size we are breeding for. As to the fleece, he has a nice hand and a nice crimp that is extremely high-frequency, but what is really impressive is the degree to which this crimp is uniformly distributed throughout his blanket. It is everywhere. It goes all the way up to his topknot (see photo -- that's the very top of his poll, there) and all the way down his legs. There is no part of his fleece that does not have that high-frequency crimp. This crimp style does not come at the expensive of staple length, because Apollo's staple length is awesome. Lastly, Apollo is listed as brown ... However, he appears to be roaning out, and looks like he may yet transform into a modern rose gray. This boy finally figured it out, and now has a female spitting off. Please don't hesitate to contact me for more photos, fiber samples, or to schedule a visit to come out and see him. This guy brings a lot to the table for a pretty great price.
