At Autumn Sun Alpacas, we know that is no secret that this true black herdsire is an all-around package that you will want to cover any dam, light or dark colored! Secret is a black that had no fading at his tips or interspersed white fibers when he was showing (he's getting a few 'old man' white hairs now). This isn't surprising with a lineage that includes notable black sires like Othello, recently deceased, and Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest. With his distinctive head and leg coverage, along with his inky black fiber, many stopped and stared at Secret the ring. And worthy of that attention, his fiber has extreme density, bright shine, bundled crimp, and soft handle. These are traits that you want to add or amplify in your breeding program! This is obvious in the 10x champion true black son, AutumnSun's Black Maelstrom. We were fortunate to have had our program benefit from such an exceptional offspring, especially as he was just one of only a few we have performed to Secret! We have the fortune of several excellent herdsires, including grey and black, so Secret has had to be patient. And, Maelstrom is just as a precocious stud just as his sire, as both started breeding under 2 years old. Father and son both breed black well into our program. As our Secret is getting up there in years and we we don't want to overtax him (he is still breeding for us), we are closing him to outside breedings.

HuacayaOpen (Female)Medium Rose Grey
AOA# 32223989DOB: 3/1/201113 yrs
Aerie had a unique grey coloring -- the lavender-grey of of early morning light across the Rockies. Her fiber was very fine with great uniformity and consistency between the light and dark fibers. Her crimp, a low amplitude / high frequency that gave lively energy to yarn made from it. This is not surprising, as the granddaughter of ATV Addonnis, 14x Champion in his day (which was amazing in that time!)! She was bred to Mile High Deacon Grey, 14x Champion grey male for her first cria! We were so excited that she produced a lavender grey girl in her spitting image (well, except for her definitive brown leg!) Gracie was slow to embrace breeding, but now produces lovely grey offspring herself! Aerie was bred to another great grey male for a 2015 black girl, our lovely Primrose. Primrose is one close to our heart and will likely stay at our farm for her life. On top of it, she makes wonderful fibered crias! For her 2016 cria, she produced a classic rose grey girl from Avatar. This one is the best yet! We named her Loraleigh. Loraleigh has gone on to produce her own grey cria, namely our regal rose grey male, Reposado. When bred to the stunning Granite's Bay Royal Steel she produced a lovely DRG male. If you have not seen Steel in person, put your hands on his fleece, you should! He has 'all that' in fineness, shine, crimp, organization, density, and LOTS of coverage. His CMRG boy by Aerie was a little off the mark but had great fineness and shine. Siderite has moved on to his own future at another farm. She followed this by a beautiful silver grey boy sired by US Steel, that we named American Ultra and added to our herdsire row. Last but not least, she gave us our Lilac Bloom. But, giving her a year off last year, we didn't know this was to be her last. She passed away suddenly, one day the picture of health and the next day slipped away quietly from what a vet has said is indicative of heart attack. We are immensely sad to lose our quiet and calm Aerie and hope she is enjoying green fields where she is at.

Description

CONGRATULATIONS TO KATHRYN KLEPAK FOR HER WINNING BID ON LILAC AND HER SELECTION OF STRADIVARIUS FOR HER MAIDEN BREEDING! A meeting of lineages of grey royalty on the dam's side covered by black stacked generations back on the sire's side! We hesitate selling Lilac since she is the last daughter of our Adonnis granddaughter, acquired years ago as one of the few grey dams we had on our farm. ATV Adonnis is one of the most utilized and recognized male in the foundation of the grey program in the US. Lilac's dam produced mostly grey and one black girl for us before she passed away earlier this year. However, we have a few of Lilac's sisters so we felt it was time to offer out one of these lavender girls for sale. Moreover, Lilac is the daughter of our 5x black champion (this was in the days before multiple shows and walking fleece shows) Wolf Den's Dark Secret who brings to the genetic table his Othello and Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest genetics. Secret is the sire of our 13x black champion stud AutumnSun's Black Maelstrom. So, Lilac has a pedigree that is stacked in grey and black! For her maiden breeding, Lilac can be bred to our 26x black champion Estate's Stradivarious who is closed to outside breedings. This would be a nice pairing to tease out black since Lilic's color genotype is Ee a2a2 for black coloration. So, without the expression of her grey color genes, Lilac is a base black and would produce black. Or if you wanted to stay the course of her grey genetics, we have available several unrelated grey herdsire genetics. We have our multiple champions, AutumnSun's Artorius (son of Royal Brutus), AutumnSun's Dauntless (son of Bea-2 Bomber), AutumnSun's Apache Longbow (son of Enlightenment), AutumnSun's Major General (Son of Ernesto, son of Lennox) who has produced a very nice classic silver grey this last year. Last but not least, we have our Quixotic 'trouble brothers' - Trouble and Double Trouble. So -- if you want grey herdsires to choose from, we have them!
