CONGRATULATIONS to Lindsey Betz and the Betz Family Farm on the purchase of Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia. Taupie will be greatly missed at Rare Gem Alpacas but he leaves behind a number of lovely offspring to grace our herd for years to come! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. He has sired 53 offspring and 74 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin! While dam selection has a significant influence on such outcomes, it should be noted that the majority of the dams Taupie has been bred to have no genetic influence on this outcome. So for those that don't have existing foundation girls with appy / harlequin lineage-- Taupie has proven to be capable of passing along his appy genetics and produce desired results. So how does this happen? Only part of that story is known, but what we DO know is that certain lines of known appy gene carriers are much more "expressive" than others. Taupie just happens to be one of those. His heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. In April 2016, Taupie's progeny debuted in the show ring taking a blue in walking fleece and the blue in halter at the California Classic. This first boy was then followed by another appaloosa female and then another appy male-- both very similar to the first. The fourth cria, however, is something extra special! This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes-- Rare Gem U-Taupe-ia's Appletini! The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from Taupie's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful color seems to morph before your eyes! As much fun as it is to talk about Taupie's progeny... more about him! Taupie has a spotted face, spotted belly, spotted legs, and a beautiful solid platinum-taupe blanket. His top line is a nice medium silver grey, then blending into light silver grey down the sides. UPDATE: 2/2019 Leoopard appaloosa offspring, Sleepy Acres App-solutely Adorable "Dorie", takes Reserve Color Champion at Txolan! Congratulations!!

Exceptional EPDs! Running Late Daughter

Running Late's Peaches and Cream

HuacayaBred (Female)White, Medium Fawn
AOA# 35369189DOB: 6/22/20177 yrs
Peaches is a beauty! She is a line breed of fawn Matrix daughter Cyncity to her grandsire, PC Running Late. Peaches has a beautiful head and robust, correct frame showing true Huacaya type. Her fleece is exquisite-- bright, soft-white and crimpy from tips to skin with light to medium fawn spots up the back and neck. Please check out her histogram and EPDs. Peaches has very dark eyes, palate and toenails. Density is excellent. And not be be overlooked, she has a very sweet, friendly and curious personality. In January 2019, wildly spotted appaloosa harlequin, Apache Gentleman, was selected for Peaches' maiden breeding. The results was a beautiful appaloosa female... she was born at 2:15 AM (thus named Night Owl) on March 1, 2020. Night Owl grew into a lovely appaloosa yearling and was exported to Switzerland in February 2021. She will be missed but we are pleased be sharing this lovely girl and her fabulous genetics. In December 2020, Peaches was paired with harlequin male, Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia. This pairing resulted in the wildly expressed harlequin, Rare Gem Camouflage! Born 11/15/21-- this handsome offspring is a fleece monster with presence galore... one for the serious appaloosa / harlequin breeder(s) to keep an eye on.

Description

It is with great excitement that we introduce this handsome harlequin appaloosa son of Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia and elite-fleeced, Running Late's Peaches and Cream. Peaches was purchased in 2019 for her outstanding fiber traits, beautiful phenotype, pedigree and patterned fleece. She does not carry an appaloosa or harlequin in her pedigree, but is an expressed pattern so she was included in the appy/harley program as a potential for throwing just what we want. In 2019, she was paired with harlequin appaloosa, Apache Gentleman. The two produced a lovely classic female appaloosa that was exported to Switzerland in early 2021-- Rare Gem Night Owl. In late 2020, Peaches was paired with harlequin male, Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia "Taupie" and produced this handsome harlequin male, Rare Gem Camouflage! Born 11/15/21-- this handsome offspring is a fleece monster with presence galore. He was born on a 90 degree day and took a half day to fully dry. Sire, Taupie, was recently sold. Thank you Taupie for gifting us with such a gorgeous gem just prior to your departure! Camouflage is one for the serious appaloosa / harlequin breeder(s) to keep an eye on. UPDATE: Camo is a natural with the ladies. He has settled his first females and we have four confirmed pregnancies for 2024 offspring from this young male. We are excited to see what he will throw for us.
