We purchased this male in partnership with Don, Sharon and Austin Greee of Snow Diamond Alpacas at the 2010 Snowmass Making of Champions sale. His combination of conformation, fleece characteristics, strength of pedigree and strong white genetics were major reasons we were interested in this boy. Bella Vita specifically acquired him for the following: 1. Strong white pedigree, 5 generations of white with only 1 beige in the group 2. Dense, white fleece - no fawn spots on this boy - bright, uniform, fine with excellent character 3. Line bred with doulbe Hemingway, Augusto, and 4Peruvian Isabella. Hemingway and Augusto are also in Tuscan Gold's pedigree, so the plan is to cross Alpine King on our white and light Tuscan Gold females. Line breeding scare you? Well, Snowmass has been doing it for years, and Augusto and Hemingway were 2 of the males used the most in this strategy to double up those excellent genetics for more predictabilty in their program. I think it worked as evidenced by their years of doing this, so this is not a new or untried breeding strategy but one that has proven to work and has made Snowmass Alpacas a leader in the industry and light years ahead of the rest of us. Same can be said for Meklem's program and line breeding with the excellent predictable fleece his animals have produced. Study what these 2 farms have done and you'll see that some of the line breeding questions have been answered. 4. Correct frame, presence, excellent bite and just a very handsome, upright, showy male. We strongly believe in good conformaiton and know that proud presence in an alpaca makes selling them a lot easier - does half our work for us as it draws people to our pens to meet these impressive animals and makes them stand out at the shows. A powerhouse of genetics, Alpine King is by Satin King, a Snow King son by Augusto. His dam is White Satin, a daughter of Hemingway and 4 Peruvian Isabella. Satin King and Snow King were both shown a bit and have a championship or two with several blue ribbons to their names, but more importantly, they were the in a group of elite white males used by Snowmass to cover many of their females. Alpine King's female line is even more impressive. HIs dam, Alpine Perfection, is by the very well known and impressive Snowmass Perfection, by 4Peruvian Legacy and out of the famed Wedding Pacabells. The maternal granddam is by Accoyocusani, a son of Augusto and 4Peruvian Isabella with the tail female line also including Hemingway.
