<--ari-->Medium Silver Grey<--color--> Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. He has sired 53 offspring and 74 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin! While dam selection has a significant influence on such outcomes, it should be noted that the majority of the dams Taupie has been bred to have no genetic influence on this outcome. So for those that don't have existing foundation girls with appy / harlequin lineage-- Taupie has proven to be capable of passing along his appy genetics and produce desired results. So how does this happen? Only part of that story is known, but what we DO know is that certain lines of known appy gene carriers are much more "expressive" than others. Taupie just happens to be one of those. His heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. In April 2016, Taupie's progeny debuted in the show ring taking a blue in walking fleece and the blue in halter at the California Classic. This first boy was then followed by another appaloosa female and then another appy male-- both very similar to the first. The fourth cria, however, is something extra special! This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes-- Rare Gem U-Taupe-ia's Appletini! The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from Taupie's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful color seems to morph before your eyes! As much fun as it is to talk about Taupie's progeny... more about him! Taupie has a spotted face, spotted belly, spotted legs, and a beautiful solid platinum-taupe blanket. His top line is a nice medium silver grey, then blending into light silver grey down the sides. Update: Congratulations to Jabe Alpacas of Switzerland on their purchase of Rose for their appaloosa breeding program. Rose will bring new genetics to Europe and we are very excited to see what Rose will produce for her new owners. Rose is a gorgeous harlequin appaloosa female sired by AOBA champion, WWR Prince Greystone and full Peruvian Condor Granddauther. Her fiber is a beautiful rose grey with lovely lock, luster and density. Her build is sturdy and correct. Rose has a super sweet disposition and is a favorite of guests during farm visits. SIRE: Prince Greystone is a stikingly beautiful Rose Grey Suri herdsire, whose accomplishments in the ring are second to none. He has twice won AAA Futurity Color Champion, he took AOBA and AWE Color Championships, and took first in the International Alpaca Odyssey (no grey championship in that show). He has very uniform, lovely rose grey color throughout, with high luster and excellent independent twisted locks. He is a large, well-conformed male with a very "typey" head. Greystone's attributes are seen in his offspring!! Many of his spectacular progeny carry the same rose-grey fleece with the trademark "freckles" of his illustrious sire, Condor. One of his first crias sold at the 2007 Futurity auction for $30K, and another sold at the 2007 AOBA auction for $40K!! DAM: SoCal Marygold is a lovely, densely-locked, lustrous girl with good bone and excellent conformation. Her bloodlines are impressive--the legendary Sirius Black is her sire, and he brings in the pedigree of MacGyver and Bruxo. Oops! A gate got left open... and lookie what happened. Harlequin Appaloosa Suri X Harlequin Appaloosa Huacaya = Platinum Harlequin suri offspring. The suri gene is dominant and, as such, the cria will be registered as suri. This lil guy has been in Oregon with his mom and the ladies traveling to Europe. They depart in July, so he is currently being weaned and will be returning to Rare Gem Alpacas in July 2021. So, mom and future maternal brothers and sisters will be living in Switzerland and dad-- Taupie... the homozygous huacaya harlequin appaloosa has now infused his highly expressive appaloosa genetics into the suri line!! Once this unique young man returns to California, he will be shorn... stay tuned for the lovely grey to reveal under those suri locks...
