We knew he was special the moment he was born and he only got better and better as he matured. Dauntless' sire is the incomparable Annual's Bea-2 Bomber, whose owner had commented he was his spitting image. His dam was our first champion born on our farm, a dam that produced champion after champion. We have/had kept ALL of her sons on our farm in the herdsire row, including her last son, a DRG by our Dark Secret. We lost one of his brothers (judge's choice, Smokejumper) to unfortunate accident a few years ago and his dam (multiple champion Rose) to old age last year, so Dauntless' genetics is increasing rare genetics. You don't hear as much about multiple champion Kanaka (his maternal grandsire) these days but as one of those who saw him first-hand in his day, we can attest that he was a very nice male, one of the first of his kind. Similarly, his sire (Bea-2 Bomber) was a very special male in promoting the grey color alpaca fiber in the show ring. We also have Dauntless' half sister by Bomber, who is in our foundation making her own champions -- namely our Artorius. Dauntless didn't get enough action on our farm to no fault of his own, and we need to reduce numbers so please take advantage of this opportunity to add this fantastic male! We have too many rose grey males and are leaning toward the dark side -- so as a classic light rose grey he was in a tough spot. Not uncommon in the world, a younger male beat him out, as our Artorius has stepped into this spot on our herdsire row. Therefore, we have put Dauntless for sale at a very nice price to help him move to a farm that make him happy by utilizing his great peronality, attributes, and lineage in their own breeding program. Congratulations to Brandon Siglar and Austin Swain of Elderwood Alpacas for adding Dauntless to their great breeding program! We look forward to seeing pictures of the fantastic offspring he will produce.

Retired proven dam. A Roosevelt daughter possessing Patagonia bloodlines, Berry is a good catch from an well known grey program that has produced pivotal grey herdsires. She has produced well in her years of production service for her previous farm and we are sure she has plenty of years for more great crias. She is traditional in her body type and fiber archetype but does very well bred to our stocky, rooted to the ground herdsires. Berry had another beautiful grey cria in 2014, sired by NS Magic Flight (Snowmass Enlightenment x Almost Paradise Farms Beatriz; LSG #32313277). This boy ended up finding his place in a starting herd in Kansas, so we wish him well. In 2016 Berry made a mini-me from Major General. Striking in appearance with white on his face and a maroon bay black color, he really caught the eye! We lost this boy to a sudden reaction to an illness without seeing him grow to his full maturity. With this sad occurrence, we have definitely thought of rebreeding Berry to Major for a repeat. In 2017 we bred Berry to our multi-champion grey male Dauntless to produce a lovely black male. He was born the year of the bomb cyclone, which hit us hard at our farm and slowed his growth -- so he is a bit smaller than average. He is very fine, with nice crimp and style but he needs more density to push his fleece into show contention; there are articles about fiber producing animals having a perceived less density due to lack of follicle development due to stress in the early formative months (like he did with our harsh weather). His personality is supersweet and he was sold to a gentle farm. After a break, Berry was bred back to Major General, and this pairing produced a very fine fibered male as it did the first time, but this time in a true black color! Berry is a great mom to him. We believe she could produce additional crias despite her age but feel a retirement is warranted.

Description

Basalt was the boy that could have been for breeding and show; he was bred well and was a solid cria. He has a great pedigree and was off to a great start. But, then the terrible cold winter weather in 2018 hit, punctuated with the monumental 'bomb cyclone' storm that buried all our alpacas in their shelters, followed by months of icy melt runoff. He survived that but also managed to get an illness that left him debilitated. We thought he was a lost cause but he struggled to survive, never giving up. He was so weak at one point he could barely stand up straight, and it pained us to watch him. But something told us to keep giving him a chance. We never treated him as lesser -- he got all of the 'good stuff' in feed, supplements, etc. As he matured, his body strengthened and he grew, though not to the full potential his genetics afforded. His spirit never wavered, and his personality bloomed! He is a sweet heart who follows you around, loves kisses and is best buddies with everyone in the paddock. He is now the perfect 'pet' because he was not bottle fed or coddled in a way to promote any overly friendly behavior, but he has the relaxed nature of boy who never had to endure the stress of showing... and on top of that, he has lovely soft and solidly black fiber that would be a spinning farm's joy. He deserves to have a loving home and we will hold on to him until he finds one. We would price him special if he left with other boys on our farm so he could have his buddies with him.

Purchase Terms

As a fiber boy, AOA certificate transfer and transportation costs are the buyers, and though transfer will be allowed as a 'breeder' in the registration, extended breeding warranties are not provided. At CVI exam, if the buyers desire, the vet can confirm he has descended testicles, but this is not warranted at fiber boy prices. Transport can occur at contract signing or after 1 month free agisting.
