Adam is a beautiful 3 year old harlequin (if you part his fleece he is silver grey!) that had his first cria this fall. His cria appears to be harlequin, also, named AJ. He is heavy boned with dense, soft fleece. He is exactly what we are breeding for at Illini Alpacas!

“Millie” is a stunning female who displays her well-thought out Buck Meadow Farm breeding decision. She brings the genetics from multiple color champion Goldsmith and the genetics from champion producing Legacy son Taos (Zeppelin's Sire). The breeding goal was to produce a fine fleeced animal in color so Trinity was selected to be the dam. Trinity offers an exceptional fleece as she still carries a 17.2 FD for her 7th fleece. This girl has proven to pass on this type of lasting fineness which she most likely inherited from her sire-- Taos. Millie offers very good bone density and a clean proper frame that is well-balanced. Her rich medium fawn fleece is solid throughout and her fineness and handle are impeccable. Her 2014 histogram for her third fleece returned a FD 16.9. This is virtually unchanged from her second fleece stats and also very similar to her dam Trinity! UPDATE: 1/19/20 Millie delivered a handsome 17 lb. appaloosa boy out of Illini’s Adam’s Mark! We couldn’t be more pleased with him. Beautiful appaloosa patterning, tons of fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa genetics to compliment our existing program. So pleased to introduce... Rare Gem Adam’s Design! ?? UPDATE: 10/26/17 Millie delivered a beautiful dark fawn female out of Granite Bay Royal Steel. Royal was the 2016 Futurity Grey Reserve Color Champ and Gold Country Best Bred By. Royal Steel is not only dense (65mm/SQMM), he is fine with low medullation (less than 5 percent of light colored fibers), SP ratio of 12.5 to 1, AFD 17.7 and level 3 of 4 gland presence (seen in bright fleeces) {Norm Evans}. Millie has tons of milk and continues to be a great mom!

Description

UPDATE: Winter / 2023-- Design is all grown up now and ready for the ladies. He is currently owned by Kim and Jim of Riddim Alpacas. Design will be visiting us shortly to service a select few of ladies here at Rare Gem Alpacas. So excited to see how this handsome leopard appaloosa alpaca produces! So pleased to introduce Rare Gem Design! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BACK STORY: Each year I pick a handful of what I think are extra special guys and coordinate dates for my gals. Last year, I fell in love with leopard appaloosa, Illini’s Adam’s Mark. In addition to his outstanding pattern design, he has a solid frame, beautiful fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa and harlequins sure to excite the most serious appaloosa breeder. Uniformity of fleece characteristics can be challenging when breeding multis... So BMF Peruvian Millennium was selected from my foundation for this mating. Milli not only contributes a beautiful phenotype but brings well-defined fleece characteristics AND uniformity to the mix. Milli boasts a fiber micron of 20 AFD at age 7 and is in the top 5% EPDs in 3 categories (2019). Milli is the product of BMF’s breeding goal which was to produce a fine fleeced animal in color. Milli’s dam, Trinity carried a 17.2 AFD for her 7th fleece! Sooooo.... Milli made the long journey from California to Texas for this very special date. She wintered over last year at Sleepy Acres Farm and was cared for by Rob and Jen Bolton. In the Spring she returned with a baby in the bun!! Millie delivered this handsome 17 lb. appaloosa boy on 1/19/20. We couldn’t be more pleased with him. Beautiful appaloosa patterning, tons of fleece and a pedigree packed with appaloosa genetics to compliment our existing program. Thank you Jen Bolton for your support... with gratitude!
