CONGRATULATIONS to Lindsey Betz and the Betz Family Farm on the purchase of Vintage Cashmere's U-Taupe-ia. Taupie will be greatly missed at Rare Gem Alpacas but he leaves behind a number of lovely offspring to grace our herd for years to come! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. He has sired 53 offspring and 74 percent are either appaloosa or harlequin! While dam selection has a significant influence on such outcomes, it should be noted that the majority of the dams Taupie has been bred to have no genetic influence on this outcome. So for those that don't have existing foundation girls with appy / harlequin lineage-- Taupie has proven to be capable of passing along his appy genetics and produce desired results. So how does this happen? Only part of that story is known, but what we DO know is that certain lines of known appy gene carriers are much more "expressive" than others. Taupie just happens to be one of those. His heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side. In April 2016, Taupie's progeny debuted in the show ring taking a blue in walking fleece and the blue in halter at the California Classic. This first boy was then followed by another appaloosa female and then another appy male-- both very similar to the first. The fourth cria, however, is something extra special! This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes-- Rare Gem U-Taupe-ia's Appletini! The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from Taupie's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful color seems to morph before your eyes! As much fun as it is to talk about Taupie's progeny... more about him! Taupie has a spotted face, spotted belly, spotted legs, and a beautiful solid platinum-taupe blanket. His top line is a nice medium silver grey, then blending into light silver grey down the sides. UPDATE: 2/2019 Leoopard appaloosa offspring, Sleepy Acres App-solutely Adorable "Dorie", takes Reserve Color Champion at Txolan! Congratulations!!

Jump on the band wagon for appaloosa/harlequin genetics! If there is such a thing as the definition of phenotype, Our Shiloh's Mariah is the poster child. This incredibly handsome female has excellent coverage from her head to her toes. Add to this an amazingly dense, super long staple length and characterful fleece in a rich light fawn with white points on her face and feet and you have what we like to refer to as the whole package. AND if you are looking to add spots to your herd, look no further as Mariah has been bred to a handsome harlequin/appaloosa stud!!! Now's the time with such a great chance!! Truly an exquisite male, Skywalker of Poseidon of FDA, her sire, is a stunning phenotype and style, from proven bloodlines, producers of champions. Skywalker's first cria Black Sapphire showed at Alpacamania 2008 and was awarded a blue ribbon & reserve color champion. Another winning combination! LV Sensation by Skywalker was awarded a blue ribbon at Alpacamania 2009 as a juvenile. R L Rembrandt's Frieda's sire is Rembrandt by El Nino. El Nino offspring have graced many show rings throughout his breeding career, many of those taking away the purple banner. El Nino is the son of PPeruvian Caligula, one of the most important studs in the history of the North American alpaca industry. Description

Cacao Chanel of PBR died today, 01/14/2022, after a rough dystonia birth to a beautiful male appaloosa. Neither survived. We are heartbroken........................................ **************************************************************************************************************************** Cacao Chanel of PBR is a lovely chocolate brown and her personality is as sweet. She inherited that beautiful color from her g-sire Skywalker by Poseidon of FDA. She exhibits excellent phenotype and a beautiful fleece with lots of crimp and a soft hand, not surprising with g-sire Rembrandt El Nino. Take a look at Cacao Chanel of PBR's excellent pedigree. On the top is her sire, the ever-popular Vintage Cashmere U-taupe-ia gives her a 50/50 chance of carrying the Harlequin/Appaloosa gene. She proves that through her first cria, PBR Divine Embraced by the Light, a beautiful appaloosa with two white spots. So with Cacao Chanel's dense, buttery soft fleece, perfect conformation, she would be a great addition to anyone's herd. Her Dam, Our Shiloh's Mariah, takes after her sire, Skywalker by Poseidon of FDA, with her large bone and dense, full coverage. Take a look at her ARI certificate at Top 1% for afd, sf, %f>30, Top 10% for % of crimp and top 15% for Fleece weight. She carries Caligula's El Nino genetics on both sides of her pedigree. El Nino is the son of PPeruvian Caligula, one of the most important studs in the history of the North American alpaca industry. Mike Safley stated, "Caligula died in 2003 with 203 registered offspring. His progeny won 12 sire competitions, two of those at AOBA National shows. Once he was 2nd in the get class at the Nationals, losing to his son Accoyo El Nino’s first place get. His sons and daughters have won 17 championships at the largest shows in the U.S., not counting the breeder’s best awards. Today Caligula’s offspring are working in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and England."
