Cheryl Gehly performing a hands on assessment at the ranch! She said ‘Watch This One!’ 2019 yearling shear As a newborn, Sun-of-a-Gun was a remarkable smoky-dark brown, which has lightened to a rich medium brown. We are expecting him to ‘grey up’ with age.

Co-owned by Renaissance Ridge Alpacas and UINTA ALPACAS and residing in Utah right off of I-80 for easy transport access! Gun's A'Blazin' did in fact come into our herd in a "blaze" and took us through an incredible ride as a youngster. He was without question the best fleeced alpaca that we had seen in our herd. He went on to have a brilliant show career and start his breeding career at only 23 months of age. He was biopsied and follicle tested by Ian Watt and as of July 2010, is the densest non white alpaca ever tested by or either through him or Jim Watt's lab in Australia, of any in the world. Although we rely heavily on biopsies for density, we put equal importance on histograms and especially "hand and eye", none of which Blaze has disappointed us with. More importantly, his production has been nothing less than outstanding having produced champions in grey, black, brown and fawn. We have our own "in house" EPD system and unfortunately are unable to demonstrate the analytics on Blaze's offspring. All of the ones in our herd have been done to date (9/2015): Have a look at the data on the his page on the Renaissance Ridge website...the remarkable thing in our breeding scheme is not only that he has consistently and dramatically improved fiber density over the dams, many of whose data can be linked to, but that density has been accompanied by an across the board improvement the differential in micron between primary and secondary fiber, and an excellent SD in each fiber population. Likewise the progeny histograms support the improvement in fineness, and uniformity. Blaze has been a powerful influence in our breeding program. Density: 78.3/mm2 S:P ratio 11.2:1 in skin P 27.5 SD 3.6 in skin S 19.6 SD 3.3

Peaceful Prairie's Solstice

HuacayaBred (Female)Medium Fawn

Solstice. Born during the summer solstice in June, she has continued to shine bright as she grown into adulthood. Always a very hearty and stout, strong girl she has grown beautifully - so much so that as our eyes focused on breeding white alpacas, Solstice causes us to pause and continue on with the fawn breeding program as well, she is growing such an advanced and bright type of fleece that we look forward to breeding her with the absolute best in the industry. Her sire is Hummingherd's Leviathan (a Poseidon son) who took the Hummingherd breeding program to new levels of density and lasting fineness. He won the AOA Fleece show two years in a row in the competitive white class, with his son Levi's 501 of Hummingherd also winning Reserve both years. The show wins on Leviathan offspring are too numerous to count. He truly imparted his strengths onto the next generation consistently, therefore proving himself as a true Impact Herdsire. To cross the Leviathan line with Solstice's dam Deora - an award winning dark fawn female sired by Hummingherd's Legacy de Oro - A Snowmass Legacy Gold son, has resulted in this elite fleeced female with a well-known fawn heritage. Fleece: Trait Data followers will appreciate Solstice's EPD Ranks: We see a very nice fleece staple length in Solstice, which isn't reflected in her Trait ranking - as the sire was known for a shorter staple due to the high curve and density, which is understandable. However, Solstice herself has pushed out 4 inch staple length or or more at each shearing. She is a solid medium fawn, no white spots, black skin. Excellent conformation in every way. She has the nose shading that leans towards grey, and might be a good candidate for grey breedings. As she was shorn for the first time, our shearer had me walk over and discuss what he was seeing as he sheared... he stated this was the kind of alpaca he would buy!! To me, that says a LOT. He shears thousands of alpacas a year. She has a fleece that is remarkable! Show Career: In her first show, the Gold Country Gathering by CALPACA - she won FIRST in her class, and went on to fetch the Reserve Color Championship. Next she went to Nationals, every well known breeding program was lined up with Solstice in her class and she was awarded THIRD place! She received a "wow wow wow" from the judge on the scorecard at AOA National Fleece show 2017. She ended her show career with a RCC and Best Crimp (of ALL HUACAYA) at the AOK Blast OFF 2017. When we had the winning bid for a breeding to Rennaisance Ridge’s Guns A Blazin’ benefiting Jaime Evans in the Herdsires With Heart Auction - we knew Solstice would be the perfect match for ‘Blaze’ - After placing well at AOA Nationals, Solstice went to Uinta Alpacas and under the awesome care of Suzie Radtke there, she bred once and was pregnant! She delivered a robust healthy Dark Brown Male on 2/20/18 - keep your eyes on these two as they continue blazing trails out west!!

Description

This Guy! He is the culmination of two decades of our breeding program. We took one of our best fawn females - PPR’s Solstice - a Reserve Champ herself. We then had to seek a breeding that, to put it bluntly, was ‘good enough’ for her. For that, we had to go out of state! We purchased the breeding to RR Guns a Blazin’ from Uinta Alpacas in Utah and sent Solstice for her first breeding. A year later out came this guy! Sun of a Gun came out vigorous and darker than his color we see now. He was a smokey coffee brown color and displayed some light fibers on nose, and legs. We thought he would grow into a grey color. Instead, he grew into more of a shiney brown - solid with no spots, however if his genes follow their calling, he will possibly grey up as he ages. Because Solstice has such an advanced fleece, with fineness, uniformity, a nice lock and crimp structure and good density (with length to boot!) we could only hope to Improve on density with breeding to RR Guns a Blazin’. We are seeing all these traits in Sun of a Gun here. His fleece is absolutely gorgeous with the long staple and exquisite architecture of bundle and crimp. Senior judge Cheryl Gehly assessed Sun of a Gun on his 1st birthday and said “he is one to watch this year” and noted his very low line of transition to coarser fibers on blanet amongst his other superior scores. These are the traits that are important to us as fiber and breeding stock growers. Click links on Sun of a Gun’s sire and dam to read more about their traits and show winnings. Sun of a Gun’s first histogram will be run soon for 2019. Contact Wendy for more information on this guy if you are interested in co-owning or breedings. WendyD 928-848-0267
