Genetic testing on Kodiak indicates that his color genotype is: Ee a1a3 which means that he carries one dilution gene and both alleles are black. Having an a3 allele has proven consistently to produce that rich blue-black in our herd. It is being passed through multiple generations and they are non-fading true blacks (not brown on the outside). Kodiak can produce light-colored offspring depending on the color genotype of the dam. Typically, Kodiak produces black when bred to females who have black behind them or are black. Kodiak is producing beautiful grey cria. In 2022, Kodiak's offspring continue to stand at the top of their classes. In 2020, one of Kodiak's female offspring took home several Color Championships, Reserve Championships, and a Judge's Choice Award from Amanda VandenBosch.
