SoCal Greystone's Marko

Our Marko is a real sleeper--he's absolutely gorgeous, and we think he has valuable depth of genotype AND phenotype. Marko has silky, well- demarcated pencilled black locks to the skin with gorgeous luster. He has a PERFECT head! The judges at the West Coast Alpaca show (Wade Gease and Winnie La Breque--THEY know a thing or 2 about suris,...) LOVED him and awarded him 2 halter championships, including the prestigious Champion Processing-Length Suri--for ALL shorn suris--male and female! He is calm and manageable, and has a sturdy, compact, correct and balanced frame. We LOVE this guy! Oooh...now here's a tantalizing "factoid". Marko's FULL Sister, Siriana, just had an appy/rose grey cria by Balboa of PVA, who is true black. Siriana is true black like her brother, but this means she is probably phenotypically black and GENOTYPICALLY appy/Modern Grey! We think Marko might carry the same genotype! And in his last 2 shows, Marko color-checked as "indeterminant dark""--basically black with a regular distribution of white fibers. Sure sounds a lot like a very dark grey.... With his potential for grey (from sire, Greystone), and black genetics going back to Sirius Black and Kobe, Greystone's Marko has it all. Cindy Harris of Alpacas at Windy Hill was transporting Marko to GWAS, and fell in love with him. We are now partners in Marko! We are honored that Cindy sees the same great potential in this male that we do. He spent the summer of 2016 at Alpacas at Windy Hill working on his resume. Marko has finished his sabbatical at Windy Hill, having produced 3 BLACK and 2 BROWN crias, with more to come next year! Marko can be found at Alpacas of Marin in the North San Francisco Bay area.

Platinum's Satin

A Platinum Marquis Beauty - When Satin was born it was said that she appeared to be a slick black girl and after two weeks her top line started to show silver. After shearing more silver spots appeared on her neck and back hip area. We feel fortunate to own both her and her half-sister, Victoria. Their sire, Platinum Marquis was quite the multiple champion. Adding to that, her dam was a very lusterous fawn that had an AFD of 22.7 - SD of 5 at 5 years old! She also has Torbio in her lineage. We were pretty excited to purchase her thinking of her genetics and coloring for breeding potential. We sent Satin's fleece up for processing and had a really nice yield of yarn off her young, frame - really, pretty impressive amount and the color looked black with nice luster! Satin gave birth to her first cria with no assistance for either of them whatsoever. She had a very nice dark silver grey boy by Greystone's Marko. He looked so similar to her at birth but after sharing much more silver grey showed through. Satin's 2nd cria was from none other than "Sir Oliver Twist of WAP" Oliver took about 10 championships AND judges choices awards among his stellar show career! I think we reserved a breeding to him before he received a judges choice award. Oliver is loaded with locks and his conformation makes your heart pitter patter. We are very happy to have the beautiful, golden girl to add to our foundation. She took a 1st in her class at AOA Nationals in Nebraska. Satin bred with GLR Suton in 2020. He is a beautiful dense, black Cinder's boy with some grey color on his dam's side and Satin delivered a dark grey beauty! She looks to be one of our best silver greys yet. Satin has made us beyond thrilled! We have had a few pending sales on Satin and unfortunately transportation made it cost prohibitive for one other side of the US & one being Ireland. She is currently available. We are contemplating breeding her to GLR Armani to see if he will dazzle us with something in the grey arena. Let us know if you are interested in any info.

Description

We were anxiously awaiting our last birth of the 2017 season and despite having 6 beautiful boys born already, upon this guys delivery we were not disappointed in having "another" boy. We feel we got a show stopper. This may have been the only grey that SoCal Greystone's Marko had and we think he did extremely well. Marko is black but his sire was Prince Greystone and this little guy's dam, Satin, who looks black, is really dark silver grey. She was sired by Platinum Marquis a silver grey, but she is out of a fawn dam. When breeding for grey one never knows what color may come up. We knew this guys dam has lovely luster and we loved the feeling of her yarn. Marko has nice fineness, lock structure and uniformity and both parents have nice conformation - not tall or long. While Steele is still young, he is exhibiting luster & lock with a nice handle. At his first shows, he took a 2nd in Dixon while only making the cut-off age to show by 2 days and he took a 3rd at GWAS as the youngest in his class. In walking fleece he took another 3rd place with above average density, uniformity & luster noted. After his first shearing much more medium silver grey AND luster is apparent. Though I already thought he was nice, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of luster. Check out his picture shorn, which is better in person, just gorgeous! We think Steele may grow to have the whole package, conformation that is sturdy, square in the box from day one and his color and shine! We are watching those secondary fibers coming in to see how they develop. His name, "Steele the Show" a nod to a Toby Mac song, if you want to steal the show - can't wait to sit back and watch you go - go on and take it away... Steele has very similar genetics to our SoCal Greystone's Marquis that we are thrilled with. We are quickly becoming male dominant in our herd but I keep thinking he is worth holding on to.
