Ben MacDhui

HuacayaHerdsire (Male)Medium Silver Grey
AOA# 817456DOB: 9/5/199925 yrs
MacDhui's ARI certificate reads like a veritable "Who's Who" of the nation's top grey alpacas! His sire, Request the Best, is one of the most spectacular grey herdsires to be found anywhere, a multiple blue ribbon winner who placed first at the AOBA Nationals for three successive years. Dhui's grandsire on his father's side is the great medium rose grey, Cisco Kid, who is also sire to the famous General Schwarzkopf. From his black dam, MacDhui has inherited perfect conformation and a grey and black pedigree going back four generations, including SA Silverado and The Silversmith. Quite apart from his star-studded pedigree, Ben MacDhui is well known on the show circuit as a top quality grey herdsire in his own right. At MaPaca 2002, Mike Safley pronounced him "the densest alpaca in the class" and at the 2002 Virginia Classic Dr. Anthony Stachowski remarked on his "exquisite head" and "exemplary density". Other judges comments include "wonderful fleece", "very typey conformation" and "stylish". MacDhui is a real head-turner, with a wonderful temperament, excellent coverage, conformation and fiber. His first son, the half-Peruvian rose grey Kinross, sold as a future herdsire at only 4 months of age and won a blue ribbon in his first show. His first daughter, Shannon of Cairngorm, placed second in the "Bred and owned female" class at the 2005 Virginia Classic and sold within a week of being offered for sale. His second daughter, Eilwen, sold before she was weaned and without ever being listed for sale and placed third in halter at the 2006 Virginia Classic. His medium silver grey son, Skye, sold as a herdsire prospect and won a blue ribbon in yearling halter at the Level V Buckeye Show in 2006. Elin, his beautiful half-Peruvian dark brown daughter, won a blue ribbon at MAPACA in 2007!

THISTLEDOWN'S Nola Mavericka

HuacayaBred (Female)Dark Brown
AOA# DOB: 5/1/200519 yrs
This award-winning 7/8 Peruvian daughter of Champion pinto herdsire, Peruvian Maverick, and our MaPaca blue ribbon-winning pinto, Fiona, is also maternal half-sister to the 2005 Virginia Classic brown female Champion, Thistledown's Myfanwy. Nola is a rare brown, black and white "tricolor" - her head, neck, body and back legs are brown, her nose, ears, eyes and gums are black, and her front legs are white. She also has two full Peruvian black grandparents (Peruvian Matador and Black Jack Jax sired by 4Peruvian Black Magic). Nola is absolutely covered with crimpy, dense, lustrous fiber, and just brimming over with presence and style. Her Champion maroon sister and her bay black cousin (sired by Patagonia's Compadre) are already foundation females in our herd, so we really should diversify our bloodlines, but can't bear to part with this girl! Nola was bred with our full Peruvian true black Champion and 2X AOBA ribbon-winning herdsire, Peruvian Knightrider, out of two black Peruvian imports - 5Peruvian Black Ice and 6Peruvian Anastasia. Her first cria, Octavius, arrived on New Year's Day 2008 (hence the name!), and is a solid maroon / recessive black, 15/16th Peruvian male with incredibly dense, crimpy, soft-handled fiber. Nola is a beautiful, Champion girl, with excellent potential to produce "a better black", and she will remain in our breeding program for the forseeable future.
