The legendary Hemingway, (Tempest's grandsire) and Tempest's dam, Diana, both came from the fabled Cconchatanca herd (see Mike Safley's article about this at the Northwest Alpacas website), said to have vicuna interbreeding dating to the mid-19th century. With the Peruvian/Shining Path uprising of the late 20th century, these genetics were lost to Peru, and those of us who have Cconchatanca alpacas in the US consider ourselves fortunate, indeed.
