Mr. Butterscotch (AKA Scottie, or “Mister Scot” for the serious Star Trek fan) was one of those alpacas whose photo I had seen and gone, “WOW.” Well, sometimes the stars align, and now, months later, we are proud to have Scottie join our stud row. Scottie is a very light silver harlequin appaloosa. His sire was a dark harlequin son of the renowned DPA Quetzal, son of Timoteo. His dam, My Peruvian Zuleika, was a powerful producer for Magical Farms. She is also the dam of multiple-champion grey Zoolander, as well as several harlequin daughters who were all exceptional. With a name like Mr. Butterscotch, and covered in spots, one might expect Scotty to be a bit of a goof – but this is one serious macho. Scottie is a very dominant male, though he is outgoing towards humans and very good on a halter. He gets along very well with the other large, macho studs that he lives with. Scottie's dominant nature isn't surprising, as he has the largest testicles that I have ever seen on an alpaca. This is a very desirable trait, as it has been found to positively correlate with high offspring fertility in other livestock. Coming up on his tenth birthday, Scottie still looks stunning. He is ideally conformed, with a square build and good bone. He is extremely well-muscled and has a wide chest and excellent spring of rib. His type is excellent, with a handsome head, coverage to his toes and a topknot that keeps on growing. Scottie did extremely well in the showring, taking blue ribbons at highly competitive shows. More importantly, he has retained many of those competitive fiber traits even on his tenth fleece. Scottie's current fleece is still endowed with a distinct, consistent crimp that is medium to high in frequency. His brightness is terrific for his age, and his fleece is still quite uniform with a soft handle. He is very dense, and working on a great staple length for his age. Before arriving at Howling Hill, Scottie had one harlequin, Tia, to his credit. She has solid bone, excellent coverage, beautiful type, and consistent crimp. His first cria here was an appaloosa ... His second, a harlequin ... His third, a minimally-spotted appy. Scottie can throw harlequin, alright. As Scottie is getting up in age, I have decided to close his studbook. Look for his offspring on our farm, as well as females bred to him.

Dam: Snowmass Matrix Chasqui

Snowmass Matrix dtr - made harlequin!!

Snowmass Matrix Chasqui

HuacayaBred (Female)Beige, Medium Fawn, Medium Brown
AOA# 31541138DOB: 7/2/200816 yrs
**SALE PENDING** Chasqui is our very own daughter of the renowned Snowmass Matrix. She was brought to our farm as part of my quest to bring the genetics of 6Peruvian Accoyo Elite to our herd, and she is a perfect fit with her patterned fleece. Her sire probably needs no introduction to anyone in the alpaca world. Snowmass Matrix is very famous for having sold for a whacking $675,000 at auction. He is also known for stamping his get with beautiful heads, great bone, coverage, and dense, fine fleece with a high-frequency crimp. Though Matrix's dam, a Legacy Gold daughter, likely played a large part in producing this quality male, I was more interested in his sire line in bringing Chasqui here. Snowmass Quechua was almost certainly the most prepotent result of that phenomenal nic of Accoyo Elite over a Hemingway daughter. As excited as I am to have been able to bring Snowmass Quechua genetics into my herd, it is Chasqui's dam that truly sets her apart. Her dam, WRA Rhyanne, was bred in Canada from Peruvian Allianza imports that made their way there via the renowned Jolimont stud of Australia. Her grandsire, Jolimont Peruvian Pauco, was once referred to as the "Hemingway of Canada." Chasqui is a large-framed, stretchy female with heavy bone and a beautiful head. She is possessed of excellent fiber coverage, despite having been previously slick-shorn. Her fleece is true to her lineage: very fine, with good uniformity and brightness and a good handle. Her fleece has the high-frequency/high-amplitude crimp style that characterizes both Matrix and Jolimont offspring. Her staple length is excellent, even at the age of six, with a superb yield that suggests great density. Chasqui produced a harlequin appaloosa daughter ... WOW. This cria is awesome. She is also a killer dam. We will be keeping this cria -- she is not included in Chasqui's price. Chasqui has been exposed to our elite appaloosa herdsire, Que Sera's Kubota, for a 2017 cria. This should be something else ...

Description

Meet Francesca Fiore. I went completely nuts when this one was born ... Can you blame me? Her dam, Snowmass Matrix Chasqui (daughter of, needless to say, Snowmass Matrix) delivered in the afternoon, and produced exactly what I had not even dared hope for: a harlequin appaloosa daughter. She was born fawn, with just a few black spots on her belly, but with our Harlequin boy Mr. Butterscotch as her sire, I knew what those spots meant. Francesca is a tall, elegant girl with huge amounts of energy. She has perfect conformation, a beautiful head, and soft, dense fleece. Her shearing day transformation was quite dramatic, as her blanket went from spotless medium fawn to a beautiful gunmetal grey with a faint merle pattern. Francesca's fleece is dense and soft, with a lovely handle. I suspect that her 2nd fleece is going to outshine her first. With perfect conformation, an amazing head, and spectacular coloring, it's really tough to price this girl -- not to mention the fact that she is one of the only Harlequin Appaloosa Matrix granddaughters on the market. However, she looks as though she may mature to be a bit taller than what we are breeding for, so she has been priced at $6500. This includes full reproductive guarantees as well as a breeding to any of our herdsires.
