Radar has a truly royal pedigree, and he shows it! His sire is Golden Sovereign, who is a multiple-champion son of the legendary Snowmass Legacy Gold. Perhaps even more important than his famed grandsire, however, is his paternal grand-dam. PPPeruvian Jesusa was one of the most powerful and influential dams in the Snowmass and Cas-Cad-Nac herds, as she not only produced champions, but left a legacy that few females achieve. She is the grand-dam of Snowmass Invincible, Snowmass Quechua, and Snowmass Divine Love -- and that is only a few of her tremendous grand-get. Radar's dam is an equally powerful animal. HHF Segundo's Sonatina is a three-time champion herself -- including Futurity, where she took a reserve. She is a daughter of El Segundo de Royal Fawn, one of the greatest sons of Peruvian Royal Fawn. Her dam, Kilblaan Farm Satine, is sired by NZ Maori Magic, a true black "sleeper" sire who consistently produced exceptional offspring. Satine is out of a grey dam who, at age 20, still has a fleece that is uniform and soft. Radar is very stout, with heavy, flat bone and impeccable conformation. He possess what I consider to be the ideal alpaca size and proportions: square, broad, and boxy, with a lovely tie of the neck and shoulder and a nicely rounded topline. His gait is fluid and athletic. He has tremendous fiber coverage without being wool-blind, and the absolute sweetest expression. His fiber is bright and dense, with a soft handle at six years of age and a medium-frequency crimp that is uniform throughout the blanket. Radar is somewhat on the shy side, but he is extremely gentle and quiet. He is a gentleman with the girls, but has proven to be an astute breeder. Radar's first two cria (both girls) are here, and growing up, and -- WOW. The conformation, headstyles, and bone are just awesome. This guy is an upgrader. I have set a stud fee for Radar that I feel is very affordable for a fawn of his level of quality.

Dam: Stonyridge Arista

Aussie Rockford Power Dam!

Stonyridge Arista

HuacayaBred (Female)Dark Silver Grey

Arista's joining my foundation herd was one of those things that was clearly meant to be. I missed the boat on her the first time around, so when fate conspired to make her available the 2nd time, I didn't hesitate. Between her pedigree, fantastic coloration, and impeccable conformation, this was a female who was destined to join our foundation herd. Arista's dam, Peaceful Valley Grace, was the matriarch of Stonyridge Alpacas' renowned herd. Grace has produced multiple champions, including Arista's full sister, Steele Magnolia. A rock-solid dam line, all five of Grace's daughters have gone on to become powerful producers for their herds. Grace's descendents have been consistently kicking butt in the show ring. They have also been very consistently black and silver grey, with the only few lighter colors produced by much lighter sires. Grace's line appears to be very homozygous for all of the right black alleles! Then, there is her sire, Aussie Rockford. Rockford needs no introduction to grey alpaca breeders -- or to harlequin appaloosa alpaca breeders, for that matter, of which Howling Hill Farm is most assuredly both. Aussie Rockford is not only a legendary sire of correctly conformed, fine-fleeced grey alpacas; he is also a well-known carrier of the harlequin appaloosa gene. This gene is one of the reasons that I absolutely had to bring Arista into our program: although she is a phenotypic tuxedo grey, she has confirmed herself to be a harlequin carrier. All three of Arista's offspring to date have been smashing, but it was her first, Corvus, who really caught my eye. Corvus is a truly solid, gunmetal grey -- my ideal alpaca color. He started life, however, as a light fawn. This transformation is a hallmark of the harlequin gene, and the uniform silver phenotype is one of the rarest manifestations of this amazing coloration. Arista's second son, Milestone, is a gorgeous boy who is still pursuing his show career. Her third cria is a daughter, American Maid. American Maid is a typey, incredibly stout female with an amazing staple length, dramatic brightness, and incredibly soft handle. This is little surprise, given the wonderful handle of Arista's fleece! Her second fleece scored 98/100 points at the CABA Classic Spin-Off, with the suggestion that the yarn be used for next to the skin garments. Arista arrived here bred back to Neversummer's American Iron. She produced a stunning light fawn female with impeccable conformation and a beautiful head who sold the moment she was listed. Oh my goodness gracious. Cria #5 has arrived, and holy moley, Arista knocked it out of the ballpark this time with a STUNNING, big-boned, typey leopard appaloosa with awesome fleece. This one is so impressive that, for the first time EVER, we repeated that breeding!

Description

It is written so often as to be cliche: "This guy was special from Day One." Well, sometimes we use cliches because they are so darn true. I found Tonka Truck on the morning of his birth and he looked like a week-old cria. He was arrow straight, he had huge, solid bone, coverage already, and a gorgeous head. His fleece was already fine, dense, and organized. Tonka Truck is only the 3rd cria born on our farm to our herdsire, Radar. Radar took a backseat in breeding last year, as we are actually moving to phase out studs that aren't grey or harlequin appaloosa. Well, this little dude probably just earned his sire a few more slots on the breeding roster. He is just fantastic. His dam, Stonyridge Arista, is a stellar producer, and her sons have been champions. This guy may well follow in his brothers' footsteps. Tonka looks like he is maturing to be just as awesome as I'd hoped, so he's officially off the sales list and into the Junior (REALLY junior) herdsire category.
