We will be starting our Spring breeding season without Rico. It will be an emotional time. We are still committed to giving you the best. Today (12/8/2011) was a very sad day at North Plains Alpacas, we said goodbye to Rico. He died early this morning of congestive heart failure. We thank the Lord for such a gift, and so thankful for the offspring we have and the ones coming in 2012! Take a look at Rico's final histogram, 2011. DDF Peruvian Rico Suave is an excellent example of long lasting fineness. Age 7 Rico's micron is at 17.1, SD 3.3, CV 19.3, %>30 0.4% and age 8, Rico still has a micron of 17.1, SD 3.5, CV 20.5, %>30 0.5, and now at age 10 (2010 testing), Rico's micron is 16.6, SD 3.3, CV 19.9, %>30 .05%...WOW! In 2008 we did a skin biopsy on Rico and the results are fantastic, "I found no fibers above 30 microns, which is unheard of, " states Dr. Norm Evans, "This male is the whole package based on my stats. He appears to have every desirable genetic trait that this industry is looking for. As the whole package, Rico Suave tests in the top 1% of near 1800 huacayas that I have tested." This is outstanding! With his pedigree consisting of 6Peruvian Accoyo Elite and Peruvian Hemingway, you cannot go wrong with a breeding to Rico Suave. RICO HAS 102 REGISTERED OFFSPRING. Description

Norm Evans completed a skin biopsy on July 3rd, 2015 which states, "NPA Peruvian Gideon Suave" was biopsied as a 3 year old huacaya male. His 15X scan shows fiber clusters uniform in placement which is a trait that likely came from his dam. His true density is 95 follicles SQ MM of skin based on a 10mm punch that required no adjustment. Note from his S/P scan that 6 fiber clusters show an average S/P of 14.8. Twenty five clusters show an average S/P of 15.1 to 1. Note the huge triad fiber cluster that I have outlined which is associated with extreme density and appears to be a strongly passed male genetic trait. He also shows level 3 of 4 gland presence with many round fibers which is usually associated with fiber brightness. 40% of his secondary fibers show medullation. 100 typical secondary fibers average 16.6 microns while 50 typical primary fibers average 27.3 microns for a spread of 10.7 microns. These stats figure an AFD of 16.4 microns.
