Dam: El Bello's Alexa

Grade 1 fineness at age 11.

El Bello's Alexa

HuacayaOpen (Female)Medium Fawn
AOA# 31397308DOB: 8/3/200816 yrs
This girl has vicuna looking and feeling fiber. She caries Grade 1 fiber through ll years. We purchased Alexa as a foundation dam of ultra fine fiber. She is now one of many females on our ranch with exceptionally fine fiber and the EPDs to produce offspring with ultra fine fiber. An important reason for our adding Alexa to our foundation herd is her Staple Length and Fiber weight EPDs are good, giving no loss of SL while improving fineness. Alexa has the ideal genetic picture, improve fineness and staple length together, that is a difficult thing to accomplish in the world of breeding, but Alexa does this. Alexa also has color in her background, her dam was black. This makes her AFD even more amazing. Alexa's Histogram for 2019 is amazing. She caries in her genetics extreme longevity of fineness. When they coined the term foundation dam she is one of the elite type the word signifies. We at Colusa Riverside are so blessed to have this girl in our foundation. Alexa's sire was El Bello and was most likely responsible for her outstanding fiber stats. El Bello is probably one of the most potent and prolific Stud masters of all the first import progeny. Alexa is in the top 1% club for ARI in three fiber traits. When we see El Bello in the heritage of an alpaca we know the animal will carry genetics for longevity of fineness. At age 11 years after 5 crias she has unbelievably soft fiber with an AFD of 20 microns. It is unusual to have an alpaca in the 1% club for one fiber trait let alone three traits. Description

Avellana, which means "nut brown" though she has a true black sire. She is out of Lassen View's Bortero, who is an old stud whose EPDs are one of the best in the nation for true blacks. Avellana mom Alexa has true black in her background and Alexa is by far one of our most gifted EPD foundation dams. So this little girl will become very important to a colored breeding program. Avellana can help ranches move into a line of color whose dark colored animals can also move into EPDs in the 1% Club. She was born big, well conformed and healthy. She definitely has her dam's phenotype, a lot like a typical vicuna stature. Avellana is bred to MSA Hemingway's Bogart, who at age 17 still has an AFD of 22 with an SD of 4. Bogie and the likes of these studmaster boys won't be around much longer but you can get his genetics with this girl and a price that won't break the bank. It is rare to fine a true black with the kind of EPDs that are the same for those of white animals, but Bortero has those kinds of EPDs. Avellana's dam is out of the famous El Bello. Both he and Bogart are two of the most prolific herdsires out of Hemingway. She is genetically superior for sure. She is quite large, yet extremely feminine. She has her mother's feminine phenotype and beautiful face. Getting a girl out of this pairing is just what we were hoping to base a dark breeding program. Avellana mom is a great mom with easy births and plenty of milk for a thriving offspring. I have no doubt that her female offspring will have the same capacity. This girl is friendly and easy to handle, she is well halter trained and to date has bred easily. You will have years of offspring with this young dam. Avellana's EPD stats are pretty much at the national average, which is a good place to start to breed up for fiber characteristics. Bogart will definitely improve the offspring EPDs and overall fiber character in one generation.
