We have deemed Lucius “”the Magician due to his unique genetics. He is a dark fawn with vicuna shading out of two true blacks. There is more to the illusion when you look closer—the truth is that genetically, Lucius is a black alpaca, but under the guise of a fawn! Lucius has had show success, largely due to his genetics. His sire, Crescent Moon’s Sixtus, is the only full Peruvian black male to be sired by the renowned 4Peruvian Legacy. Sixtus is an elite herdsire, and we are pleased to have his genetics on our farm. Lucius has a great phenotype as well! In addition to his unique vicuna color pattern, he has great fleece. Most noticeable is the fineness and softness of his fleece. It is also quite bright, has nice handle, and features an uncommon crimp style. Lucius has had a respectable show record. In 2012 he ribboned as the youngest in two different level 5 shows—and was the only fawn out of two blacks in each show! He followed that up with a second to the reserve color champion at the 2013 Virginia Classic. Lucius how now settled his first females. We look forward to the cria he has due this year, and will continue to breed him to black and grey. Put Lucius to work for your herd!

HERD DISPERSAL UPDATE: Becca is a bundle of black fleece and personality. That fleece is soft and extremely bright. She has solid conformation and is elegant as she stands in the field. Her typey head is adorable as well! Becca is a very curious alpaca--she has been since she was young. Combine that with a mischievous attitude and you have a charming alpaca! She, like many alpacas, is food motivated and loves treats. She would make a fine pet for a happy home! “Becca” is a darling true black daughter of our SBF Nightshade and Woodland Meadows Greyson. She is a ribbon winner but lacks great mothering skills. Her fleece is soft, especially for a black-fleeced animal. It also boasts excellent brightness, moderate staple length, and well defined low amplitude crimp. Her conformation and coverage are strong. She features the typey head that her late sire Greyson threw on all of his crias. In addition to these attributes, Becca also has a curious disposition. She always has to have her nose in everything, checking out our every move! Becca took second place halter in the 2012 Kentucky Classic in a highly competitive class. Becca is named for Rebecca J. Cole, who in 1867 became the second African American woman to receive an M.D. degree in the United States. Dr. Cole was able to overcome racial and gender barriers to medical education, culminating with her graduation from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cole opened a Women's Directory Center to provide medical and legal services to destitute women and children in Philadelphia, then later led a similar center in Washington DC operated by the Association for the Relief of Destitute Colored Women and Children. During her nearly 50 years of medical practice, Dr. Cole fought tirelessly for the medical rights of African Americans, women, children, and the poor.

Description

HERD DISPERSAL UPDATE: Kirstin is a true black maiden with no spots who soon will be ready for breeding! She has nice fleece; it is soft with average density. She has great coverage and staple length as well. Kirstin has a lineage rich in quality black lines. A black and grey program could benefit from this genetic wealth. Most of all, Kirstin is a spit fire. She has all kinds of personality! Who knew such a trouble maker could be so charming! Born on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon, Kirstin was our eleventh cria born in 2015, and eighth girl that year! Kirstin is named for Dr. Kirstin Matthews, a Fellow in Science and Technology Policy at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. Dr. Matthews has published multiple policy recommendations pertaining to stem cell research, climate change, and health care. She was the project director for the task force named "Access to Health Care in Texas: Challenges of the Uninsured and Underinsured." This organization was responsible for publishing multiple policy reports to lawmakers regarding health care in the United States.
