Congratulations to our friend Annie Hunt of Willow Wind Farm, for acquiring a share of Avatar. Please contact Annie about Avatar breedings. We are thrilled with Avatar's newest creations - including Delphi's Avella - The 2017 National grey female halter Champion at just over 6 months of age. And congratulations to Avella's new owners, Debbie and Dale Hoerl; Alpacas of Moose Creek Ranch! Many more Avatar crias will be arriving in 2018. Avatar has beautiful crimpy, dense, and fine fleece, but what separates him from other outstanding herd sires, is his phenomenal handle - due to both exceptional uniformity, and very bright, low scale fiber. Cameron Holt, AOBA Senior Judge Trainer and world wide fiber expert, gave the following scores to Avatar's fleece: Fineness: 15 out of 15 ; Handle: 5 out of 5 ; Uniformity of micron: 7 out of 8 ; Crimp: 8.5 out of 10 ; Density: 3 out of 5 ; Brightness: 8 out of 10 ; Lack of medullation: 8 out of 10. His daughter Delphi's Lailah won Color Champion Grey Female Fleece at the 2012 Nationals. His son Delphi's Rama won a Blue Ribbon at the 2012 National Fleece Show, (and then brown Color Champion at the Tenessee Waltz Fleece Show). These two Avatar kids insured Delphi's win of the 2012 Classic Cup for fleece, at the 2012 Nationals. Another standout offspring is Kanaka - an 8X Champion with 1% EPD's in both SD and >30; and 2% EPD's in fineness. While we don't participate in the program, we agree Avatar's son Kanaka's EPD stats do reflect his sire's strong suits. Avatar's many other crias now include Six AOBA National Halter or Fleece Champions, several Futurity Champions, and many many many Multi-Champion and Blue Ribbon show winners, in addition to the winners of many Special Awards, such as the Best Brightness award at the National Fleece Show - the first time this award has been awarded to a grey. Please enjoy viewing some of his lovely crias and their fleeces, shown below. Congratulations to Derwydd Alpacas for honoring Zeppelin with a place on their esteemed herd sire row. Zeppelin is no longer available for outside breedings at Delphi Alpacas. **Zeppelin is the 2013 AOBA National Black Male Fleece COLOR CHAMPION** This with his 4th fleece - the judges do enjoy rewarding older fleeces that retain superb qualities. Congratulations to Snowmass Alpacas on their purchased of one black Zeppelin daughter, plus 3 of our black females bred to Zeppelin; as well as another female bred to him from a client's farm. We'll be watching for his genetics under the Snowmass name. Zeppelin's first baby to ever show, fawn Zeppelin's Rainsong, purchased by The Alpaca Group, won a color championship at her first show! We are honored that Zeppelin's genetics have also been chosen by Pacific Crest Alpacas / Accoyo America. Histogram's: 5-2-09: AFD 15.7 / SD 2.8 / CV 18.0 / 0.2 % >30 6-9-10: AFD 16.9 / SD 2.9 / CV 16.9 / 0.4% >30 5-9-11: AFD 17.7 / SD 3.3 / CV 18.4 / 0.8 % >30 5-11-12: AFD 19.8 / SD 3.9 / CV 19.7 / 2.1% >30 Shearing Weight 2009: 6 pounds total = 7.2 pounds annualized. 2010: 9.5 pounds total = 8.75 pounds annualized 2011 = 10.1 pounds annualized 2012 = 10.8 pounds annualized Zeppelin is throwing lots of black. From black based dams his early production totals were: From 8 TB dams he has thrown 3 TB, 1 DSG, 3 BB, and 1 DF cria. From 2 BB dams he threw 1 BB and 1 LF cria. From 4 Silver greys (black base) he threw 3 TB and 1 MB. But regardless of color - with Zeppelin it's ALL about the fleece quality - for example look at his daughter Tessla's fleece at lower right - she sold for $18,000 at auction, after being awarded CC, Best Brightness and Best Hand at the Alpacamania Fleece Show. Tessla's yearling histogram: AFD 12.7, SD 2.0, CV 15.6, %>30 0.0. (!!) My pick of our entire litter last year was his daughter Deltana - a fawn with the kind of fleece we dream of. Congratulations to Bari Padgett on her purchase of Deltana! Zeppelin's dad, Taos, a stunning Legacy son, had a 22.9 AFD at 7 yrs. Zeppelin's mom tested at 21.3 AFD at 7 years as well. Zeppelin also offers correct conformation, impressive presence, size, coverage, and substance of bone. His crimp, luster and dense lock structure are stunning - staple length is extreme. Zeppelin is full Peruvian and 3/8 Accoyo. We thank David and Julie Wroblewski for allowing us to add Zeppelin to Delphi Alpacas' herd sires.
