Blue Gate Malbec is a gorgeous medium brown male with conformation and fleece that reflects his distinguished heritage. He has very bright and crimpy fleece. He has placed in very competitive classes in every show he has entered. Malbec’s sire is our elite Peruvian stud Snowmass Red Hot Cognac. Cognac is a dark fawn male with deep color genetics from two of the finest color lines in the Snowmass herd. His two grand-dams, 5Peruvian Ajoyani and 6Peruvian Silent Night, represent the best in Peruvian color genetics. Ajoyani is the dam of Cognac’s sire, 5Peruvian Red Hot. Julie Skinner described Red Hot as “an integral part of our colored program. Red Hot was born out of Black Peruvian Dam and was such an incredible cria, unrelated to any of the colored alpacas in our program, that we never even dared take him off the farm until we sold half interest to Ian & Jen. The fact that we have been able to use him over all the offspring to deepen the fineness and consistency of our colored breeding program, places him squarely among the top colored males we have ever used." Combining Red Hot with Cognac’s dam makes him unique in carrying the genetic combination of Red Hot, Ajoyani, and Silent Night. Malbec’s dam, TR Pretty Woman, is a championship and multi-blue-winning female with her own impressive genetics. She is the daughter of Peruvian Olympus, a full Alianza son of Peruvian Drambuie. Her dam HCA Boerne is also a champion and daughter of Dom Lucilio, the producer of champions and son of Royal Fawn. Malbec is Pretty Woman’s only cria. We have started Malbec's breeding career. His first offspring is Blue Gate Tempranillo, a gorgeous brown male cria who walked away with the blue ribbon at the 2012 TxOLAN show. Malbec can definitely produce! We are pleased to welcome Angel to our foundation herd. She is a beautiful young lady with a striking dark fawn colored face and points with a light fawn fleece. Her fleece demonstrates nice high amplitude crimp and a very soft hand. The judge at the TXOLAN show gave Angel high praise for her lovely fleece. Her only criticism was that she did not have the classic topknot that the others in her class were showing that day. Angel's fine conformation is no surprise given her lineage. Her dam is the daughter of El Moustachio and her sire is a Caligula son. Angel is 7/8 Peruvian and 3/4 Accoyo. Her fleece demonstrates the classic Accoyo style crimp and uniformity - with an SD of 3.4 and an outrageous CV of 13.0 you can see what we mean by uniformity. We'd like to see her micron count a bit lower, but she eats everything in sight (keep your fingers clear of this one at feeding time). Angel is bred to Albus for a fall 2020 cria.
