Finally, Prince Valiant 1 has arrived at Kickin' Back Alpaca Ranch! Unfortunately it was too late for the 2012 breeding season but he bred 3 females in 2013, and 3 females in 2015 and we are very pleased with the results. Valiant is a dense typey medium silver grey male with excellent character. He is easy to handle and prefers to put his halter on himself. His fleece is dense with a beautiful uniform crimp, characteristics exceedingly rare in gray alpacas. Check out his histogram for 9 years old, 22 AFD and fibers >30 7.5. Prince Valiant has full body coverage. He has excellent conformation with a strong frame. He is a proud flashy male, an excellent breeder. When bred to grey or black he produces grey. Of his 16 crias registered, 9 are female, 10 are grey. 2015 was a great year - he produced two stunning tuxedo greys, Mars and Reese's. He is passing along his gorgeous fleece and incredible phenotype to his offspring If you want to add some awesome grey to your herd, Valiant's stud fee for 2017 is $1,000. It is with heavy heart that we announce our darling Tyra has passed away at the age of almost 15. She had been affectionately known as Tyra The Tyrant. She was always the boss of whichever pen she was in. She may not have been the first alpaca standing at the gate when it opened, but she was always the first one with her head in the feed box. She would scream and let the other girls know that was her spot. Yet with people she was fine. She was the loveable Tyrant right up to the day she died. :) Tyra is a true black with lots of shine to her fibre. At 7 years of age she was still only 21.8 micron. She has correct conformation, with a solid boxy build. Tyra is very independent and the leader of her group, but is easy to handle. Tyra is a very attentive mom with lots of milk all of her crias have done very well and grown rapidly. Tyra's first cria for us was a beautiful true black female, Tansy. Trya and Valiant produced a light, tuxedo silver grey male, Tango. In 2015 Trya had a lovely light fawn female, Toffee, sired by Lancelot. For her 2017 cria we bred her to our top black male - Kanata and they produced a true black female - Tynata. Tynata has very fine fibre with lots of shine and crimp. Tyra has had her last cria, Myra a very shiny true black female that weighed in at 18 lbs. Her sire is our stunning silver gray - Mars. After Myra was born we made the decision to retire Tyra from the breeding program. She puts so much into providing tons of milk for her crias that it makes it hard for her to keep enough weight on herself, and she will let any of her girls nurse no matter how old they are.
