MacDhui's ARI certificate reads like a veritable "Who's Who" of the nation's top grey alpacas! His sire, Request the Best, is one of the most spectacular grey herdsires to be found anywhere, a multiple blue ribbon winner who placed first at the AOBA Nationals for three successive years. Dhui's grandsire on his father's side is the great medium rose grey, Cisco Kid, who is also sire to the famous General Schwarzkopf. From his black dam, MacDhui has inherited perfect conformation and a grey and black pedigree going back four generations, including SA Silverado and The Silversmith. Quite apart from his star-studded pedigree, Ben MacDhui is well known on the show circuit as a top quality grey herdsire in his own right. At MaPaca 2002, Mike Safley pronounced him "the densest alpaca in the class" and at the 2002 Virginia Classic Dr. Anthony Stachowski remarked on his "exquisite head" and "exemplary density". Other judges comments include "wonderful fleece", "very typey conformation" and "stylish". MacDhui is a real head-turner, with a wonderful temperament, excellent coverage, conformation and fiber. His first son, the half-Peruvian rose grey Kinross, sold as a future herdsire at only 4 months of age and won a blue ribbon in his first show. His first daughter, Shannon of Cairngorm, placed second in the "Bred and owned female" class at the 2005 Virginia Classic and sold within a week of being offered for sale. His second daughter, Eilwen, sold before she was weaned and without ever being listed for sale and placed third in halter at the 2006 Virginia Classic. His medium silver grey son, Skye, sold as a herdsire prospect and won a blue ribbon in yearling halter at the Level V Buckeye Show in 2006. Elin, his beautiful half-Peruvian dark brown daughter, won a blue ribbon at MAPACA in 2007!

DUNDEE'S Holly Hawk

HuacayaBred (Female)Dark Brown
AOA# 849329DOB: 10/1/200321 yrs
Our 2nd Annual Fall Champion Production Sale was so successful, we took Holly off our sales list to keep her May 2009 cria, sired by our half accoyo dark silver grey Champion PV Nikos. Holly produced an absolutely stunning rose grey daughter, Heather, from this breeding, (pictured at left and NFS!) and has been bred right back to Nikos. Holly, and her black daughter, Meliora, are currently listed for sale and we will sell one or the other, but not both! Proven to produce black and grey, Holly Hawk is a beautiful dark brown, 7/8 Peruvian Champion, sired by the nationally acclaimed black Champion CPeruvian Black Hawk. Imported in utero, introducing a rare Peruvian bloodline to the U.S., Black Hawk won two consecutive black championships at Estes Park in 2000 and 2001, and first place fleece at the AOBA Nationals and Estes Park in 2001. He is producing Champion offspring, and Holly is no exception! Holly's light fawn dam, Clementine, is also a Champion, and a daughter of CPeruvian Jaxon, another renowned black Peruvian imported male. In May 2007, Holly produced a beautiful dark silver grey son, McGregor, from her breeding with our super-dense silver grey halter Champion, Ben MacDhui. McGregor is already sold as a junior herdsire. We are keeping Holly's 2009 rose grey daughter, and either Holly, or her black May 2008 MacDhui daughter, Meliora, will remain in our foundation herd. We just can't decide which one to keep, so you choose! This is a rare opportunity to purchase a 7/8 Peruvian, Champion daughter of Black Hawk, bred with our half accoyo 3X Champion dark silver grey male, PV Nikos. We don't offer outside breedings to Nikos, an outstanding son of Aussie Rockford and a grandson of the legendary Accoyo machos, Felix (deceased) and Yupanqui (deceased), so don't miss this excellent opportunity to obtain these bloodlines, through a Champion dam, already proven to produce black and grey. You can't go wrong with an excellent mother of this quality.

Description

This typey, solid black daughter of brown halter Champion, Holly Hawk, and silver grey Champion, Ben MacDhui, arrived on May 20th, 2008. Meliora is the second black daughter Dhui produced for us this Spring and her half sister is already sold, at less than 6 months of age. We held Meli back, and offered her dam for sale, but have now decided to offer either Mel or her Champion dam for sale, but not both! The name Meliora is derived from the Latin "melior", meaning "better", and is also a name strongly associated with Cornwall, where there is a church named after St. Meliorius. This little lady is a bright and playful character, with excellent coverage, lovely square conformation and wonderful staple length. Meliora certainly has "the look", and is like a miniature black version of her sire with a face like a teddy bear. We had originally planned to keep Meliora for our foundation herd, and sell her Champion dam, Holly, but took Holly off our sales list until she produced her May 2009 cria. July 2009 Update: Holly produced a stunning rose grey female, Heather, from her breeding with Nikos, so we bred her straight back to him for her 2010 cria and are still not sure about selling her. Meli is developing into a typey, crimpey, dense female, with a beautiful head and wonderful trusting, mellow temperament. Her price has now been increased to reflect her true value, and the fact that she will be bred with Nikos this Fall. Should be an awesome match, given Meli's grey genetics from her sire, and the outstanding quality of her maternal half-sister, Heather. Meli is the only daughter of our silver grey Champion, Ben MacDhui, that we have ever managed to keep, in the 9 years we have owned him, so as she approaches breeding age, we are becoming more and more reluctant to part with her!
