How many full Peruvian white males do you know that produce solid black?! Tundra is a multiple award-winning white male with great conformation, coverage and presence. To complete the package, he has an incredible fleece, with extreme character, bundling and wonderful density and is PROVEN to produce solid black offspring. Produced from the ideal match, breeding Marcela, the dam of "Show Me The Money" and "Silver Dollar", to Presidio, an outstanding Caligula son, Tundra has already produced color and his parents have produced some of the best colored alpacas in the nation. Presidio had 6 "Get of Sire" wins to his credit, and his crias had won over 50 color championships and 80 blue ribbons at Level 3+ shows by the time he was only 7 years old, firmly establishing him among the elite ranks of prepotent sires. Tundra's two maternal half-brothers, "Mo" and the grey "Silver Dollar", are both exceptional colored herdsires, renowned for throwing top-of-the-line greys. Tundra is a very high end white male, placing second in three very large, white, full-fleece halter classes, the most competitive classes of the alpaca world. His sire, Presidio, has a light fawn dam with vicuna markings from the Macusani region of Peru, whose coloring allows Presidio to pass the dam's color through to his crias. Presidio's sire is the world class Caligula, now deceased, whose exceptional bloodline is well represented on the West Coast, but not so easy to find here in the East. Presidio sheared 11.9 lbs at 5 years of age, of which 7.9 lbs was prime blanket. Tundra started breeding in Fall 2006, which was the first opportunity we had to try him with a colored female in our own herd. His first, full Peruvian crias arrived in the Fall of 2007. When we saw the color, and the fiber improvement he made on both dams, he was immediately bred to three of our best award-winning black females and one maroon, and produced both solid black and solid maroon offspring!

Dam: THISTLEDOWN'S Kerensa Compadre

THISTLEDOWN'S Kerensa Compadre

HuacayaBred (Female)True Black
AOA# DOB: 7/1/200519 yrs
Kerensa is a beautiful black girl with straight, well-balanced conformation and beautiful fiber character - her blanket is just a mass of tight, shiny curls with a handle like velvet! Her dam, Demelza is the MaPaca ribbon-winning 3/4 Peruvian daughter of two true black parents, who exhibits wonderful conformation and stature, dense fleece with outstanding crimp, plus coverage from tip to toe. Demelza is also the granddaughter of two incredible black Peruvian herdsires - Lanark's Obsession (deceased) and 4Peruvian Black Magic. Kerensa is sired by Patagonia's Compadre, a "double black" son of Caballero Andante from Alpacas de la Patagonia. At 2 years of age, Compadre had a fiber analysis of 20.6 AFD, 3.4 SD, 16.5 CV and 1.2% > 30 microns, with an 8lb shearing weight - these are phenomenal numbers for a true black out of two blacks. Kerensa is expected to remain in our herd to replace her dam, Demelza, who is already sold.

Description

Gwendolen is the daughter of a multiple blue ribbon-winning black dam, Kerensa, and an award-winning full Peruvian white male. Her sire, Tundra is already proven to produce black. This means that Gwen is recessive black, with potential to produce colored offspring, and includes a built-in fiber upgrade from her white sire. She has very bright, silky-soft fiber, which hangs almost straight, like suri fiber, and is quite unlike the fiber of any other Tundra cria born to date. While Gwen's density is still good, her fiber seems to be developing a more solid, less airy feel, than the fiber of her huacaya siblings. She has a low frequency, bold crimp, and the underlying fiber is so bright it almost sparkles in the sunlight! Gwen's conformation and stature are excellent, like that of her mother and grandmother before her, who both have the conformation, attitude and presence of most herdsires. Gwen is a really feisty little character, and has no trouble holding her own with the young males around here. Her dam, Kerensa, is one of our most intelligent females, who won may ribbons in performance classes, as well as halter and fleece. Gwen is the great granddaughter of one of our original females, and our eldest daughter has trained and shown both her mother, Kerenza, and her grandmother, Demelza, before her. Gwen will make an excellent foundation female for a black or colored breeding program, and has the personality to become one of those females you never want to sell!
