Mariposa is the kind of foundation female alpaca breeders dream about. Her solid white pedigree contains the names of two outstanding males, PPPeruvian (Accoyo) El Moustachio and Peruvian Hemingway. The power of the Alianza/Accoyo cross to produce exceptional alpacas is proven again in Mariposa...fine, dense, crimpy, consistent white fiber on a nicely balanced, conformationally correct frame. The whole package! Mariposa has given us three outstanding crias. The third cria is a lovely, spunky, white female, Avalon's Morning Star ... the first cria from Avalon's Peruvian Tri-Star, our white multiple Color Champion. We can't wait to see this little girl grow up. And, as with her other two crias, Mariposa has demonstrated again that she is an attentive mother who births easily and breeds back readily. These are qualities we look for in our foundation females. Since the outcome of the Mariposa/Tri-Star match promises to be something special, we have repeated this breeding. Can we be lucky enough to hit the jackpot twice with this combination? Stay tuned! Unfortunately, Mariposa lost her pregnancy February 13, 2008...a female, of course! We were sadded by this loss, but grateful that Mariposa seems well. We'll be rebreeding her to Tri-Star at the first opportunity following shearing in June.

UPDATE: Rio's first crias are here and look great! The genetic potential of this full Peruvian male is awesome! He brings together the strengths of the Accoyo(Caligula and Leon) and Cconchatanca bloodlines. Both his dam and his sire have elite white fiber that has retained fineness as they have matured. At the fourth shearing his sire's histogam was AFD=18.3 SD=3.6 CV=19.7% CF=99.7% >30=0.3%!!!! As if that wasn't enough, Rio has a terrific dam, too. Phyllis is one of our outstanding foundation females, representing the awesome result of an Accoyo/Cconchatanca match. She has given us two exceptional crias: Taffeta (now one of our foundation females) and Rio...2 for 2! Phyllis's histogram for her 8th shearing was an outstanding AFD=20.4 SD=4.2 CV=20.3% CF=97.3% >30=2.7%!!!! Talk about maintaining fiber excellence! And, like Montezuma, she offers fineness without sacrificing density. How can Rio not be great? Rio has grown into the phenotypically ideal male that his sire represents (see photo). Rio has his sire's excellent conformation and balance, complete fiber coverage, and handsome head. His dense fiber is bright, crimpy, fine, and consistent with excellent staple length. And, the good news is that he just continues to get better every day, exhibiting the "type", presence, and style we want in a herdsire. At the IAOBA Show, Diane Timmerman called him "The complete package!" WOW! Description

Marissa is a very nice 3/4 Accoyo lineage female from Caligula, El Moustachio, and Hemingway bloodlines. This attractive female has the substance and bone for which the Accoyo line is known. Her crimpy fiber has very good density and consistency. Marissa delivered her first cria in 2005, a handsome beige male. As we expected, she delivered easily and has proven to be an excellent mother, just like her own dam, Mariposa. Marissa was not bred back right away as the male we selected to breed her to did not become available in 2005 as planned. When it became too late for a winter breeding, we made the decision to hold her open for rebreeding in 2006. She was rebred in July for a June 2007 cria...perfect timing for the Upper Peninsula. Marissa produced a beautiful beige female cria with charming "spunk" and personality! In 2008 Marissa produced a very pretty black female by Autumn Alpaca's Peruvian Lord Stanley, light brown, 6x Color Champion and multiple blue ribbon winner. As a juvenile, this youngster earned a Color Championship at her first show! Since we were delighted with the result of this match, we rebred Marissa to Stanley for a repeat. From this SAME BREEDING they produced a white male cria in 2009...go figure...genetics! Look for the listings of Marissa's crias, Mikayla, Maya, and Maestro on our sales list. EVERY FEMALE purchased from Avalon Farm is eligible for reduced price breedings to any solely owned AFA herdsire FOR HER BREEDING LIFE, regardless of owner.
