Snowmass Porteus

HuacayaHerdsire (Male)Medium Brown

His crias are phenomenal. Championing at Nationals, winning at Futurity and in your pasture with blankets consistent to the belly and fantastic fleece and body! Snowmass Alpacas descibed him well, so here are their words: "Named after the best Port we have ever tasted… And a toast to the very best XXXTREME production son ever to be born. The entire Alpaca breeding world knows who Snowmass XXXtreme is after taking herdsire of the year 2 years running 2006 & 2007. This particular son, Snowmass Porteus was the Ultimate reason why. Porteus in our opinion is the ULTIMATE™ in COLORED ALPACA production and why he has been staged in the Snowmass publication of The Making of Champions Part II as having the ultimate colored alpaca fleece.(A LONG, FINE, XXXtremely BRIGHT, staple and incredibly consistent through the entire body, from head to chest to toe) Snowmass Porteus simply stated has the “LOOK”, strong, upstanding, and extremely well balanced in his frame added to his ELITE FIBER he has INCREDIBLE POTENTIAL to raise the bar in ALPACA COLOR FIBER. Snowmass Porteus, as well his sire, has taken our COLOR breeding program to the top level of SUPERIORITY equal to the most ELITE whites. Porteus was shown at the highest level show, The Futurity, and took first place both as a Juvenile and Yearling and moved victoriously into the CHAMPION CIRCLE. Many Juveniles place well the first year but the real test is if they can stand in the same position the next year. Nothing about him has wavered in fleece and or body in his maturity. His 1st yr AFD of 15.1 and 2nd year of 16.5. HE IS THE ULTIMATE™..." Sadly, Porteus passed away in late Summer 2010. We miss him. He left us with a few spectacular offspring, a young herdsire or two, and a few in-utero that we anxiously await. The Porteus offspring will become the backbone of our breeding programs for years to come. We share our loss with our outstanding partners at Dusty Creek Ranch and Blue Gate Alpacas.

Description

This female was owned by Julie and Don Skinner's oldest daughter Maree. She purchased her out of their entire herd as her FAVORITE with proceeds from her first alpaca Snowmass Golden Heritage. Morning Moon has a number of cria for Maree and she wanted to be part of the sale again with one of her alpacas and so chose to sell Morning Moon. Morning Moon is a delight in Color. She has a strong frame and brings very exciting color genetics to Snowmass' herd from Canada and Peru. She has produced Grey from Grey and Fawn from Fawn and Black from Black. She has a beautiful lustrous black fleece that took a Blue in AWE and 2nd place at AOBA National Fleece show. Her breeding to Snowmass Royal Challenger is one Don and Julie tried to talk Maree into waiting for and truly regret her selling her as know it will be one of her best. And guess what...it was! If you have seen any of Royal Challanger's offspring as they have stood in the winner's circle at the Futurity...you will know why we are so excited! We are absolutely thrilled that she had a male, as we can already tell that he is destined for our herdsire line-up! She is sister to Golden One who is an outstanding herdsire owned by Blue Gate Alpacas. We will be breeding her after Thanksgiving to the one and only Snowmass Porteus! If we were to get a black from this breeding, you might hear my yea haw all the way to Idaho!
