How to keep improving our breeding program- that’s the challenge we are all facing as breeders. Snowmass Royal Challenger, the 2004 Futurity Color Champion, has proven himself by producing the next generation of elite colored huacaya alpacas. Son of Snowmass Royal Rose, one of the top Studs from the North American Alpaca Stud Group, Royal Challenger hails from a long line of “greats” including Hemingway and Bueno. Challenger’s dam, PPPeruvian Edelweis is a grand dam in her own right- a long time producer of champions. Royal Challenger consistently passes on his superior phenotype and fleece attributes to his offspring - superb conformation, awesome coverage, fineness, high-frequency style crimp, long staple length and beautiful brightness. Until now, Royal Challenger’s outside breedings have been extremely limited. We will be offering a total of 3 outside breedings to Royal Challenger, exclusive to clients, for the remainder of 2008. Additionally, one breeding will be available to the community at large at the rate of $7500.

Dam: Snowmass Morning Moon
30701946<--ari-->True Black<--color-->This female was owned by Julie and Don Skinner's oldest daughter Maree. She purchased her out of their entire herd as her FAVORITE with proceeds from her first alpaca Snowmass Golden Heritage. Morning Moon has a number of cria for Maree and she wanted to be part of the sale again with one of her alpacas and so chose to sell Morning Moon.
Morning Moon is a delight in Color. She has a strong frame and brings very exciting color genetics to Snowmass' herd from Canada and Peru. She has produced Grey from Grey and Fawn from Fawn and Black from Black. She has a beautiful lustrous black fleece that took a Blue in AWE and 2nd place at AOBA National Fleece show. This breeding to Snowmass Royal Challenger is one Don and Julie tried to talk Maree into waiting for and truly regret her selling her as know it will be one of her best. And we of course feel like it was because we got LUNAR CHALLENGER <--description-->
Description
We're so excited to announce that his first cria on the ground was finally old enough to show this season and has been to two shows where he won 2 first place ribbons and a Championship. It makes us feel gret because it affirmed what we were counting on Challenger to do. We'll be adding more girls to his dance card!
Wow wow wow...17.0 Microns at 3 years old, Dark Brown AND breeding. If you're looking for an all around gorgeus guy, he's it! He is everything we'd hoped for. He's dense, has a luxurious handle, is wonderfully shiny and has consistent crimp style. He doesn't exhibit any guard hair(primaries)extending beyond the blanket. He's the most incredibly sweet and smart alpaca. He's just a joy to be around. Which makes the fact that he's simply stunning, really exciting!
Ron picked out his dam at the Snowmass aution because she was not only an outstanding award winner in both the black halter and fleece categories, but she was bred to one of the most fabulous fawn males around. Snowmass Royal Challanger. Any of you who know Ron, also know that it's rare from him to put his foot down and insist on a dam. But he really wanted us to add Snowmass Morning Moon to our herd and I'm so glad he did! Her Avg. Micron at 4 years old was 20.4 (not bad for a black production dam).
Royal Challanger's, (Snowmass Lunar Challanger's sire), crias have been winning big. His 2008 histogram at 6 yrs old is 20.9 4.4 21.1 3.4 49.4. He was the 2004 Futurity Color Champion. Royal Challanger is the son of Snowmass Royal Rose, (dad to XXXtreme and G-Dad to Porteus). But just as exciting is Royal Challanger's dam who we admired from the first moment we saw her. PPPeruvian Edelweis is a grand dam producer of many champions. Royal Challanger consistently passes on his superior phenotype and fleece attributes to his offspring: superb conformation, awesome coverage, fineness, high frequency style crimp, long staple length and beautiful brightness. Take a peak at his listing and you'll see where our guy gets his looks. :)
Challenger's crias exhibit supreme shine and a silky dense handle. He throws that typy head style that we love. If you need to improve fleece coverage, head style, consistency, density, secondary to primary ratio, and fineness, while preserving color...Challenger might just be your man. His most recent son just won 1st Place at TXOLAN 2015 in the juvi brown class. This guy definitely needs more crias on the ground!!
