Bevo of Copper Ridge

My Favorite alpaca!!!! We spotted this young male at the AOBA conference and were immediately intrigued by what we saw. Bevo is what is referred to as "The Total Package" and five separate judges have mentioned just that. He has incredible density and coverage, and tons of character in his soft-handling fleece. His large boned yet compact frame make a second look common. Under the term "alpaca phenotype" you just might find a picture of Bevo. When we teach people about conformation, we use Bevo as the example. These characteristics are all a must for any breeding program. Bevo's calm, confident, gentle personality just add to his total appeal. Although Bevo has won in both bay black and dark indefinite classes; his lineage of silver gray, true black, brown, fawn and beige from Chile, Bolivia and Peru shine in this package of diversity. We have bred him to females of a broad spectrum of colors to find his true identity. His first cria have arrived and they are truly amazing. They all have his heavy bone and perfect conformation (see Photo)The fleeces are very dense, very fine, with brightness and in the majority of his crias the color of the dam. The colors range from light fawn to true black. Of the offspring on our farm, the highest AFD of fleece was 19.0. We think that's pretty remarkable. Bevo's famous mid-western sire Providence Rennes, is the multiple blue ribbon winning, half-brother of Dom Lucilio. And Bevo's mother is out of Desparado, a blue ribbon winner at both AOBA and MAPACA. These are fantastic and uniquely crossed bloodlines now available in Pennsylvania. At age 15 Bevo's fleece is still remarkably consistent, exhibits beautiful structure and he continues to amaze our shearer with his density. We proudly co-own Bevo with Chris and Lori Works of Kendall Creek Farms. Can you tell...... we love this guy!!!!

Troubadour's Riddler

HuacayaHerdsire (Male)Medium Fawn

The best way to introduce Riddler is to state that he is the embodiment of our ideal alpaca in terms of structure, conformation and breed type. He will be used as a representative to illustrate our breed standard. Riddler's sire, Troubadour, ranks among the most prepotent alpacas that I am aware of today. This is due, I believe, to the awesome fusion of his incredibly powerful dam line with his highly unusual sire line. Troubadour's dam, El Nino's Precious Gem-Stone, is, as her name suggests, a daughter of the great El Nino. A 7x CH, 3x JC winner in her own right, she is also full sister to BHA Peruvian White Thunder, a herdsire who has become known for stamping his get with ideal bone and breed type. Thus, Troubadour's dam line is massively prepotent for build, breed type and coverage -- not to mention the density and crimp. His sire line seals the deal. Lilly's Accoyo Dupioni is a son of (Accoyo) PPPeruvian Lilly 4605, a true impact dam whose offspring include Peruvian Snowmaster. Dupioni's sire is Elitus, a little-used in-utero Alianza import. That renowned Accoyo/Alianza worked, as it often does, and, blended with the Accoyo/Alianza/Anticalla cross of Gem Stone, gave Troubadour locked-in excellence in just about every category. ... Of course, it takes two, and Riddler's modern grey dam -- a granddaughter of impact black sire, 4P Black Magic -- is, herself, an outstanding animal, beautifully built, with lasting fineness. It's a cross that worked, and here he is: Riddler, a living example of our phenotypic ideal. His bone is awesome. His conformation is really, truly faultless; not only is he truly straight all around, but his proportions are perfect, the 3/3/3 division that is one of the key traits of our ideal alpaca. So, too, is the head, and Riddler has it. His head is perfect -- yes, perfect. His bone and coverage are fantastic. He began his breeding career at age two, settling females easily – no great surprise, given his outstanding reproductive development – another key trait in our ideal. Alpacas are fleece animals, though, so, as ideal as he is in all other regards, if the fleece didn't stack up, he wouldn't be here – so good thing it does. Riddler is fine … Yes, ideally fine. His 1st fleece AFD was 13.7 microns. His 2nd fleece is still making the show rounds, so it hasn't been tested yet, but his 3rd looks like it is holding steady at a good 19-20 AFD – and uniform, too. Then, there is his density. He has it: 74.3 sq/mm per Ian Watt (biopsy report under "Histogram"). Riddler's cria have started to arrive, on our farm and in PA. They are. *All.* Awesome. This male is unbelievable. Stay tuned.

Description

Elvira is a quiet, easygoing girl who is not really sure what color she wants to be when she grows up. She is registered as a medium silver grey, and was shown as an indefinite dark (taking only blues). Her sire is a bay black with a white face -- an "almosta tuxedo grey" -- and her dam is a true black whose grandsire, Tell Hot Shot, is a harlequin. So, Elvira fits right in here. More important than the actual color of Elvira's dark fleece is how incredibly soft it is. This isn't too surprising, given that her AFD for her fourth shearing was 19.8 microns, with a comfort factor of 97.5%. The change from her 2012 fiber statistics is negligible, and her current fleece is wonderful and soft, so she seems to be holding nice and steady with these numbers (and crimp -- see photo). Her fleece is also beautifully bright, contributing to her soft handle. Elvira's conformation is square and correct. She has full fiber coverage and good bone structure. Elvira's first cria is here, and she is being retained for our program. I am extremely picky about my keepers, so THAT is saying something (she was my first-ever keeper!). Elvira is officially my "sleeper!" Sadly, we lost Elvira in the summer of 2017 to an intractable jaw abscess. She is being left up here for reference, as we still have offspring in our program. She was a tremendous producer, and I regret that she only had two offspring.
