We were saddened to say goodbye to Grand Alero as he moved on to alpaca heaven, and have left his info here since he supplied the wonderful genetics for quite a number of our females - many who shear 5+ pound blankets. Grand Alero played a very special part in our breeding program; he gave us six beautiful girls - Grande Alera, Grande Dencia, Just Glorious, Grande Laramie, Grande Flora, and Benezette - including award winners in both halter, fleece and spin-off competitions! His daughter, Grande Alera, for example, began winning blue ribbons in halter at the age of 6 months, a second place at AOBA Nationals (between Accoyo America in first and Snowmass in third), blue ribbons and a Best Brightness Judges' Choice award in large fleece competitions, as well as a 4th place in fleece at AOBA Nationals. Therefore, it was with pleasure that we joined in on the ownership of Alero with our friends Tim and Deb McCarty at Heather's Acre and we thank them for the opportunity. Grand Alero's wonderful temperament was passed along to his offspring along with his very dense fiber and crimp. He will be missed, and we will be forever grateful for all of the calm, beautiful, dense offspring that he gave to us. Their next generations of offspring continue to carry his wonderful qualities as well.

Description

This full Peruvian, 3/8 Accoyo girl was a beauty from birth, and hit the ground running on the AOBA show circuit! Awarded her first blue ribbon at only 6 months of age and as the youngest in her large class at the 2006 MAPACA Jubilee, Grande Alera also garnered a decisive first place just two weeks later at the 2006 PAOBA Breeders Showcase, followed by a second place at the AOBA National Conference - all before the age of 7 months. Along with having lovely conformation and excellent fleece qualities and coverage, one judge remarked that Alera's lustrous fleece "shoots moonbeams"; another classified her as having an "elite fleece" - a testament to the fineness of her medium fawn dam with vicuna markings, 6Peruvian Paulettha 6140 IMPR98, and the density of her award winning 3/4 Accoyo sire, Grand Alero - a Caligula grandson. (She also has his wonderful temperament!) Yet another judge stated that she displayed the desired phenotype that we should all be aiming for in our breeding programs. Grande Alera's fleece was awarded blue ribbons at the 2006 OABA Alpacafest, and at the 2007 MAPACA Jubilee, as well as the MAPACA Judges' Award for Best Brightness of the 182 submitted huacaya fleeces, followed by a fourth place fleece ribbon at the 2007 AOBA National Conference with stiff competition. Her fleece scores were high at 84.5, 82.5, and 80 respectively (marked down severely for damage by the third showing at Nationals). She received a fourth place fleece ribbon at the 2008 MAPACA Jubilee, as well, for her second fleece. Grande Alera shears a whopping 10 to 11 pounds of fleece each year - a highly desirable trait! In 2010, Alera produced an absolutely gorgeous daughter - Morning Sky's Siriusly Stellarr - a sweet, blue ribbon fleece winning female with tiny little bundles of fleece, tons of density and blinding brightness. 2011 brought a stunning COLOR CHAMPION and 3 TIME RESERVE CHAMPION male! Morning SKY's Taddeo took the Reserve Champion banner at the Level V 2012 Buckeye Alpaca Show in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 9 months, and again at 15 months at the 2012 MABA Celebration in Maryland, the Junior Herdsire Cup at the 2013 Buckeye Show, and the white male Color Champion banner at the 2013 PAOBA Breeders' Showcase. His fleece is fine and extremely dense, with brightness and a soft hand, garnering him the JUDGES' CHOICE ribbon for Best Brightness at the 2013 MAPACA Fleece Show - the same award that Alera won in 2007! His offspring are beautiful as well, so check out his stats on his own page and book YOUR breedings! Subsequent female offspring carry beautiful fleeces with large shear weights, a testament to why we didn't sell Alera years ago when we were given a very generous offer. She will forever remain as one of our foundation females!
