If you are serious about breeding alpacas to meet the demands of a large-scale American fiber industry, then you should seriously consider breeding your females to Accoyo America Tempest! At 7 years of age, his fiber was judged at the International Alpaca. Odyssey to excel with those attributes most important to the fiber industry: Retention of fineness, and uniformity of micron, length, and architecture! Accoyo America Tempest is a male cast in his VERY famous father's image (Nautilus). The award-winning offspring that Nautilus has produced comprise a "Who's Who" of the Alpaca Industry [ Accoyo America Typhoon, Sinbad, Apocalypse, and Shanghai, to name just a few..] and his dam is no slouch either, producing Tempest’s full brother Typhoon – who sold for a whopping $100,000 at the 2006 Parade of Champions sale. Tempest has a stunningly bright fleece with high frequency, low amplitude crimp. Long, long staple length, exceedingly organized and consistent.. His 2008 (13 1/2 months old) fleece had a stunning AFD of 15.5 and an SD of 3.5..WOW… The results of his skin biopsy (Watt) are just in and they are EXCELLENT!! At 43 months: Density 63/mm2, Secondary:Primary fiber ratio: 13.3:1 Primary fiber diameter 23.9 Secondary fiber diameter 15.9. Ian Watt points out that, "he has an excellent fiber population differential of only 8 microns. ...a superior fiber for a near four year old working male. " BREAKING NEWS: For 2011 Tempest sheared 15 pounds total, with a blanket weight of 4.9 pounds!! And, in 2014 two of his crias in Idaho had AFDs of 14.3 and 14.4 at 11 months of age! These fleece characteristics are a tribute to his rare and elite Cconchatanca genetics. The legendary Hemingway, (Tempest's grandsire) and Tempest's dam, Diana, both came from the fabled Cconchatanca herd (see Mike Safley's article about this at the Northwest Alpacas website), said to have vicuna interbreeding dating to the mid-19th century. With the Peruvian/Shining Path uprising of the late 20th century, these genetics were lost to Peru, and those of us who have Cconchatanca alpacas in the US consider ourselves fortunate, indeed. Tempest has a level topline, excellent leg set, good bone, medium frame and carries fleece from his very nice topknot all the way down. This is a male who will retain his fineness and to whom you want to breed for ultra-fine, bright fleeces with high frequency crimp, advanced bundling architecture, and consistency. ***My Dream Came True!! Tempest took 1st in Get of Sire competition--over 4 other males, several of whom have "Get" wins to their credits. This was "real" competition! AND his cria took Reserve Champion! AND it just gets better--Tempest was awarded 2 Champion Banners in Commercial Fleece at the International Alpaca Odyssey in 2014--for "Best Retention of Fineness" and for the "Grand Champion Commercial Huacaya Fleece". His daughter, Rockstar's Twisted Sister, took RC at the 2016 Futurity and CC + Best Head at
