Description

AVR Lunar Eclipse is a son of Maple Brook Barnabus, a well known herdsire in Colorado. When Barnabus was first brought to Colorado we were very impressed with his fineness and crimp and knew that someday we would breed to him. We had the opportunity to breed and choose a medium fawn female to obtain color. The female we choose to breed to him was 6Peruvian Hallelujah, she was imported in-utero and had given us several wonderful cria. It worked again! When Lunar was born we were very impressed with the staple length and crimp. When he was 6 months he started in the show ring his first show was in Arizona and he received a second place from Amanda Vandenbosh. His next show was The Great Western Alpaca Show and this time he received First Place in a very large class. The judges comments were about the brightness of the fleece, uniformity of the crimp from skin to tip and the soft handle. Fall Festival 2009 Lunar again took a second place the alpaca who won at the Arizona show won first place. After that show we let Lunar relax and grow into a herdsire but after we got the histogram back from his 3 year old fleece we decided that it was time for the show ring again. We entered him into 2011 The Great Western Alpaca Show at the age of almost 5. Kristen Burman placed him 6th place in a class of 14 alpacas most of which were half his age. Now normally we would not be excited about a 6th place but he beat out some very large and well know farms and some herdsires that have breeding fees that are the price of a very expensive alpaca. He accomplished this with a micron count of 18.1 with his 3 year fleece! We are very proud of Lunar he remains to be one of our favorite males because of his fleece and temperament. Here are his fiber statistics: 2007 Fleece: 14.8 AFD 4.1 SD 27.3 CV 1.1 CV%>30 2009 Fleece: 16.8 AFD 3.3 SD 19.6 CV 0.7 CV%>30 2010 Fleece: 18.1 AFD 3.6 SD 19.8 CV 1.1 CV%>30 Lunar started breeding in 2010 and now the results are on the ground! We wanted to see what he could do so we breed him to light fawn, white and modern medium rose grey. We are very excited to see the results both of the cria born so far have had bright, crimpy and uniform fleeces. One cria is white and the other has a dark fawn blanket with a rose grey neck. There are two more cria on the way so check back to see pictures.
