Donovan's Duke
Alpaca, Huacaya, Herdsire (Male) | True Black
AOA #1335964 | DOB: 9/30/2004 (20 yrs)
Sire: Donovan
1335964<--ari-->True Black<--color-->Full Chilean
Donovan's first 9 breedings produced 6 female and 3 male crias...all healthy and adorable! His best daughter, Evita, won 5th in a very large class at the 2004 AWE show and sold as a weanling. All are very sound and healthy with that adorable Alpacas De La Patagonia look compliments of their well-known grandsire, Shakleton. Donovan is average sized with very correct proportions, conformation, movement and phenotype. His blanket fleece is very uniform, soft, fine and dense with high frequency crimp, nice luster, soft handle and no prominant medulated fibers.
And...Donovan has *consistently* passed his best to his crias!<--description-->
Dam: Miss Flame
1335964<--ari-->True Black<--color-->Full Bolivian
Miss Flame's fleeces thus far have had no prominent medulated fibers. They are very uniform and dense, soft and lustrous with well defined, aligned crimp.
Miss Flame breeds easily, births unassisted and is an excellent mother with ample milk. She is average sized with medium bone, good conformation, wide and even leg spacing and has a correct bite. She has a splash of gray on her right shoulder (see spring 2003 photo), dark eyes, spear-shaped ears, a full topknot, facial fiber and a nice temperament.
Her first cria, Donovan's Duke (grandsire Shackleton, Chilean), weighed 73 pounds at 6 mos. placed in his two 2005 shows amongst heavy competition at barely over 6 months of age.<--description-->
Description
Duke's 2014 fleece was sorted as grade 2 (two) by AFCNA.
Duke earns himself a position on herdsire row for his Bolivian/Chilean heritage and his fleece's lingering crimp character and softness (6+ years) with minimal visible guard hair on a sturdy, correct frame with excellent type and temperament.
Blues for halter and fleece at Alpacapalooza 2007 with four in the class in his third year winning ribbons.
RC cria fleece at AWE show!
At a herdsire review a few years ago, he was one of the finest, crimpiest mature blacks and his aligned crimp was still there in his sixth fleece. He has award-winning parents who nicked well to produce Duke's alpaca synergy!
Duke has impressed many top judge's with his beautiful, typey head and physique, fluid movement in all gaits, a fleece that is remarkable in regards to uniformity and character into his extremities and amazing lack of guard hair. The handle...silky softness, suppleness and bundles with aligned, well-defined crimp of medium amplitude and frequency is there too...even in his fourth fleece! Correct phenotype, correct stance and bite, presence, substantial bone and muscle, average size, a well-mannered temperament, strong libido and correct testicles rounds out what this nice male has to offer.
Six of the seven relatives in his pedigree are black and the other is DB/TB. Good pedigree productivity with multiple award-winning parents and other relatives.
