RC '16 AOA Fleece, CC '17 AOA Halter Maelstrom is a 13x champion, the 2016 AOA National Fleece Black Reserve Champion, and 2017 AOA National Halter Black Male Color Champion. His first fleece was measured in 2015 to be 18.81 AFD / 3.62 SD / 19.2% CoV. To bring home his banners, he combined awesome shiny, fine and uniform handle with tight crimp from his dam with Secret's inky-black similarly crimpy, shiny, and consistent fiber. Though both dam and sire have great coverage, Mael's head is credited to his sire's beautiful headstyle that cannot help but catch the eye. He is well conformed and balanced in his frame. Maelstrom has a lineage filled with champion banners, exceptional lineage, and black genetics. In Maelstrom, you have a list of "who's who" merging into a TRUE BLACK 7/8 Peruvian cornerstone herdsire. Maelstrom is the progeny of our multiple champion black herdsire Wolf Den's Dark Secret, who is the optimal result of the pairing of Dark Quest crossed with Othello bloodlines. His paternal grandsire is the well known Snowmass Nova's Dark Quest, son of the famous Snowmass Nova, son of Snowmass Peruvian Casanova. He is out of our lovely Fossil Ridge's Special K, a 7x champion fawn dam hailing from the multiple Champion Rumaki, a Royal Fawn son with the bloodlines of Presido and Felix. His crias have been stunning! Maelstrom's cria coloration to date is 88% black (TB or BB) from a black dam and 100% on our farm by dams whose pedigrees are known to produce black and/or are loaded in black. He has been bred to both black (49%) and non-black (51%) dams. When bred to the lighter colored dams (white, beige, light fawn) he produced crias darker than their dams 60% of the time, even some black crias! When his progeny have been bred to black, 100% of the descendants have been black. More than of one of his crias born to dams at our clients' farms have been described as "blue-black" in their owners glowing compliments.
Maelstrom is closed to outside breedings. He is not available for sale unless with the purchase of entire herd; in that event, no breedings will be allowed until he is paid off in full.

Description

Lilly is a a harlequin rose grey Hannaruh granddaughter. Lilly was an appaloosa in her younger days and is now considered a Modern MRG by show rules (a harlequin grey by colloquial description). Before she came to our farm Lilly produced an appaloosa cria, Imitation, that went on to win in shows. She was bred to a CMSG male and produced a MDSG female in 2015, so she shows she can produce grey! Imitation has been been bred to our appaloosa herdsire Jacob twice to produce appy girls both time; when bred to a solid male, Imitation produced a solid cria. We bred Lilly to a CMRG grey for her 2017 cria, and produced a.... white male. Hmm. Not what we hoped for but maybe more of what we should have. Rather than being a classically colored grey, her coloration lends itself to harlequin, pattern or solid. This male has a proud stance, good conformation, good density and crimp with potential. Her previous farm's comments: Lilly is a gorgeous appaloosa female with the ribbons to prove it! She stands tall and straight and beautiful. She has perfect conformation and a correct bite. Her fleece has very high frequency crimp with density, fineness and luster to die for. She has a very easy going personality and is easy to handle. She always gets pregnant on the first time and births easily. And so far the ratio has been great too - two beautiful female crias in a row. Lilly is an attentive mother who produced a lovely dark colored female cria, out of Xanadu's Brutus' Firecracker. "Disco" has amazing fleece and is standing tall and beautiful just like mom. We had to repeat this breeding again because this little girl is winning in the ring and this years white female, Lena, is sure to do the same! This year [sic; past year] she was bred to Tapestry's Kahuna and produced a handsome dense as can be light fawn male "Sonny".
