Mendel is a tall, balanced, and stately alpaca. He has incredibly soft, dense fleece with a definitive zipper crimp, uniform bundling, and fantastic handle. Since we have an abundance of males on our farm, and are now concentrating on darks and greys, we are offering Mendel for sale as a companion, fiber, or pet male. Mendel has the gentle personality of his mother. He leads well, and even served as a "long necked sheep" in our church's living nativity. While beige/white in appearance, Mendel carries hidden genes for color. His sire is medium fawn and his dam is solid true black. With his genetic potential, we named him after the 19th century Austrian geneticist Gregor Mendel. Mendel also possesses an outstanding pedigree. His paternal grandsire Pperuvian Vengador and maternal grandsire Pperuvian Terror were two of the original males imported from the Estancia Accoyo in 1994. That group included other well known names such as Caligula, Timoteo, Pluro, Camilio, Victor, Felix, and Leon. Terror's bloodline is especially rare, as he was not widely bred before his passing, making Mendel's lineage very unusual. Mendel earned a fourth place ribbon at the inaugural 2008 IAA Heartland Classic Show, which provides further evidence of his high quality. Whispering Willows Alpacas is pleased to share ownership of Mendel with Kim Rassi of Vintage Alpacas in Ohio. Since both farms need to make room for 2011 cria, we have reduced Mendel's price, and are offering him for full interest sale. We are also offering Mendel for sale in a package of fiber, pet, or companion males along with Thunder and Fireball.

Dam: Sweet Friday

Half Accoyo Black--Retired!

Sweet Friday

HERD DISPERSAL UPDATE: Friday has been our best producer and has earned her retirement! She is content to be spoiled rotten and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Friday, who is affectionately called “Old Lady”, has never known a stranger. She is friendly and an easy keeper! Friday is also an exceptional PR alpaca. She adores treats and having her chin scratched. We are looking for a good home for Friday where she can live out the rest of her days in luxury. We wish for someone to love and care for her as much as we do. She is truly a wonderful alpaca! Our favorite "older" girl in our herd, Sweet Friday, was born on Friday the 13th, but is not bad luck at all! Sweet Friday lives up to her name, and has been consistently producing great-looking, quality crias. She is a well proven, terrific dam with an excellent supply of colostrum and milk--a heritable trait she's passed on to her daughters. Friday is a daughter of the renowned Pperuvian Felix. From Estancia Accoyo of Peru, Felix was one of the elite group of males imported in 1994 that included Caligula, Victor, Timoteo, Vengador, Leon, Terror, Camilio, and Pluro. Sweet Friday produced outstanding cria for us each year. She gave birth in 2007, to a beautiful, solid bay black female named "Caterina." Caterina was sired by Aussie Colorado Dillinger, a Pperuvian Caligula grandson. Caterina has fantastic fleece and outstanding conformation, and has won ribbons in the show ring in competitive classes. Sweet Friday gave birth in 2008 to a 1/2 Accoyo, rose grey girl out of Mr. Lincoln, a Pperuvian Timoteo son. This cute, friendly little girl named "Rosie" (Rosalind Franklin) has the same cuddly personality as mom, and has become a farm favorite. Friday gave birth in 2009 to her third female in a row, a beautiful light fawn female with light vicuna-pattern shading! Named "Christianne," she is a full sister to Friday's 2008 cria Rosie. In spring 2011 Friday gave us a boy for the first time, a 1/2 Accoyo brown cria named Percy out of our Gregor Mendel. He was one of the most mischievous cria we've ever had on the farm; he has been sold as a pet. In 2012 Friday gave birth to a cute grey boy with both personality and promise named 'Gus.' Gus, listed under his own page on this site. She followed this up in 2014 giving birth to another grey boy name 'Pierre' out of our outstanding stud MFI Toledo. Friday is a smart, experienced dam with great mothering skills. She is now retired because of her age and her difficulty in holding her weight while nursing.

Description

Percy was our first spring birth of 2011, and he is looking better with each passing day! His conformation is outstanding, and his soft fleece is coming in with good density and well defined bundles with high amplitude crimp. In addition to his physical characteristics, Percy appears to have inherited the wonderful, friendly personality of his mother Sweet Friday and half sister Rosalind Franklin. Friday and Rosie, when open, are out best PR animals--they love to be scratched under the chin and are always in the way! Early indications are that Percy also has this same sweet disposition. Percy is a half Accoyo future herdsire, with the well known imports PPeruvian Felix, Pperuvian Vengador, and Pperuvian Terror, all from the first group of Accoyo males imported into the U.S. in 1994, in his lineage. Percy is named after the American physicist Percy Williams Bridgman. Dr. Bridgman won the 1946 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the physics of matter under high pressures. He also wrote extensively on the scientific method and on other aspects of the philosophy of science. His education and teaching career was all accomplished at Harvard University. In addition to the Nobel Prize, he was awarded numerous other awards for his groundbreaking work. *** Percy's price has been reduced, but he is still a potential sire! What Percy lacks is size. He is a compact male. He still has wonderful conformation and fleece, plus a desirable head. Percy has TB and BB in his lineage and has the potential to throw dark. As mentioned above, Percy has many notable Accoyo lines, including the RARE Pperuvian Terror. Due to his size, he would receive less work than our herd sires. But, this does not mean he can't be a good sire! We would love to see him at work in your breeding program!***
