Caterina Scarpellini
HuacayaOpen (Female)Dark Brown
AOA# 31126229DOB: 9/28/200717 yrs
Caterina is a very nice, well rounded, excellent female. She has beautiful, crimpy, and dense bay black/dark brown fleece, along with sturdy and square conformation and a typey head.
Caterina is 3/8 Accoyo, with both Pperuvian Felix and Pperuvian Caligula in her lineage. Felix and Caligula, from Estancia Accoyo of Peru, were two of the elite group of males imported in 1994 that included Victor, Timoteo, Vengador, Leon, Terror, Camilio, and Pluro. Caterina's sire is the well known Aussie Colorado Dillinger, a champion fawn male with many award-winning offspring.
The second female cria born on our farm, we named Caterina after Caterina Scarpellini, a meteorologist, astronomer, and mathematician who lived in Italy during the 19th century. Scarpellini organized the Meteorological Ozonometric station in Rome. She was born in 1808 and discovered a comet in 1854. In 1872, Italy struck a gold medal honoring her work in statistics.
Caterina earned two show ribbons in fall 2008: she earned a third place ribbon at the inaugural IAA Heartland Classic Show, and a fifth place ribbon in a large class at the 2008 OABA Alpacafest in Columbus, OH.
Caterina has produced only one cria for us-- a stunning dark fawn female named Olive, in May 2013. Olive is listed for sale as a breeding female on our sales list.
Unfortunately, aside from her one cria, Caterina has consistently failed to carry her other pregnancies to term over a period of several years We have made the difficult decision to offer Caterina for sale as a companion or pet female. She is good on the halter--having performed very well in the show ring as a youngster. With work she should be a wonderful 4H animal, or can simply be part of a pet or fiber herd.
Alpacas are herd animals and cannot be kept alone, therefore we offer all of our pet animals for sale in sets of two or more--at BOGO pricing.
Caterina is being offered for sale with her friend Morning Glory for a total of $150. These girls are not older animals--they are seven and nine years of age, respectively--but both are being retired as breeders. These girls will make a wonderful pair of pets for the family wishing to acquire its first alpacas, or would be ideal as companions in a larger female herd.
