Did you see her fiber test results?
2009: FD-22.9 SD-7.1 CV-30.8 %>30-10.1
Curve-30.7 Max-67. Age 16 years!!
'Max' here means the largest diameter fiber that was recorded. Look closely at a lot of histograms and you will see just how impressive this one is - and she was 16 years old. Yes, the SD and CV are higher than ideal, but the Max is impressively low, and did I mention she was 16?!
Alpacas like Espirit are good examples of why using techniques like Artifical Insemination and Embryo Transfer are such valuable tools. Now deceased, these tools could have helped preserve the precious genetic material of this outstanding female.
"A.I. and E.T. are pretty basic tools. They are NOTHING like Genetic Modification (sometimes inaccurately called 'genetic engineering'). These tools simply allow us to be 'middle men' in the natural reproductive process. They can reduce the costs and risks of transportation, exposure between herds, and can allow more flexibility in a breeding program. If semen and embryo freezing techniques are employed, the use of great sires and dams can be saved for future use.
Aside from the emotional investment we tend to make in our animals, we all know there are some animals that no amount of money can replace. Their genetic value may be unique. The ability to use frozen semen and/or embyos is the ONLY true insurance against the loss these outstanding animals in our herds." (c) 2005 Linda Marie McWilliams, Inti Alpacas, LLC
Progeny - Espirit produced 10 ARI registered crias. Two of her daughters, Satin Slippers and Miss Estelle, are currently in our foundation herd. Her son, Sultan, is reluctantly offered.
