Opie has come to our herd through some friends of ours who are dispersing their alpaca herd. This is one beautiful rose grey male with awesome conformation and incredibly soft fiber. I plan to take a clipping and have a histogram done. His fineness is better than his crimp, which is there, but very fine and crinkly. His dam is true black, with Camelot as her grandsire and Opie's sire is a medium rose grey sired by Snowmass Casanova, with Royal fawn on his dam's side. Quite an impressive pedigree. He has bred a couple of females this fall, but we have no confirmation of pregnancy as of yet.

Description

Miracle really is our miracle-baby. She was born at only 301 days gestation and found hours after her birth, alone in the barn except for our Great Pyrenees dog, Cheetah, who was acting as her guardian angel. Long story short, her dam (a first-time mom) bonded with her just fine and they spent their first 2 weeks together at Ohio State's vet hospital. They were impressed with her will to live and strong personality. Miracle has been a great mother to her 3 crias, all of which have been very nice. I have to say, she has been a personal favorite of mine, friendly and sweet. Her fiber is still nice, though not as fine and crimpy at almost 7 years old as it was in the past. Miracle's last pregnancy resulted in a full breech vet-assisted birth this past September. We lost the cria, but Miracle is fine. Before that her most recent is a beautiful female cria, now a 2 year old. She is listed as Miraculous Mayhem on this site. If I were planning to continue with an alpaca breeding program, I would be keeping Miracle. But I am changing my plans more toward the fiber industry in general and so I am selling all my breeding stock to someone who will use them. It is hard to let them go...
