Crescent Moon's Daytona

HuacayaHerdsire (Male)True Black
AOA# 32670752DOB: 6/16/201212 yrs
We are sad to announce that Daytona passed away this past winter (2023) of unknown causes. His information will continue to be displayed for reference as he has many offspring, including more to come this summer. Daytona's cria have proven just how capable Daytona is at producing black with such a variety of dam colors. We are thrilled with his offspring. They are dense, silky, crimpy, extremely well put together conformationally, and have such lovely presence. In 2016, Daytona produced 5 black, 1 dark grey, and 1 brown cria. Dams ranged in color from black to beige, but most were fawn and brown. Daytona exceeded our expectations. Histograms are showing that Daytona offspring are following in his footsteps - first year results as fine as 15, but averaging 17.5 microns. Excellent uniformity and comfort factor as well with vast improvements in density. The incredibly handsome Crescent Moon's Daytona joined our herd in north central Idaho in 2015. His fiber stats prove that he is holding his uniformity, fineness, and density with a fleece weight of over 5 lbs for his blanket, and 10 lbs overall. He also exhibits wonderful brightness as commented on by the judges. It is inspiring to see these characteristics in true black along with undeniably outstanding conformation. Daytona has acquired an impressive show record: 1st at The Futurity, Color Champion at GWAS, and much more. Daytona excels in many aspects, but what jumps out is his uniformity. When you look at his fleece, you notice (besides his impressive density, brightness, and fineness) that something is missing - guard hair. Daytona's fleece is like glass - absolutely uniform well across the blanket in color (no spots!), silky fineness, crimp, length, density, and lack of guard hair...all the way down the belly! You can see that uniformity in his histograms too with low standard deviation and %>30, even on his adult fleeces. Put that on top of a well-balanced frame and 'look-at-me' presence, and oh boy. Daytona is a product of 3 esteemed breeding programs coming together - Flying Dutchman Alpacas on his sire's side (sire: Skywalker by Poseidon of FDA), Fir Cove Alpacas on his dam's (dam: Fir Cove Bonita), and Crescent Moon bringing it all together with their stamp of approval. Take a look at the plethora of Accoyo bloodlines - PCA Accoyo El Nino, Caligula's Accoyo Poseidon - and well-known color producers such as PPeruvian Victor. Examples of Daytona offspring available for sale now: 1 black proven herdsire - National Champion, AHarmony's Nocino 1 beautiful brown extremely fine and dense female - Sweet Pines' Manzanita 1 very dense maiden (bred) true black female - Sweet Pines Regal

Description

Seqouia is a gem. With grandsires Black Magic and El Moustachio (greatgrandsire ROYAL FAWN), along with rich color genetics (true black, brown, dark rose grey), and her own phenomenal fleece (21 microns & 3.9SD at 4 yrs old!). In 2008, Sequoia gave birth to Aspen, a dark silver grey lovely girl with extremely soft fleece and straight conformation. She was then bred to multi-champion Spanish Peaks Banderas and produced Torreya, a wonderful modern rose grey female with great bone structure, long, dense, & silky soft fleece, and a sweet, friendly personality. We couldn't have asked for anything more! In 2010, Sequoia had another gorgeous, strong and healthy girl out of herdsire Snowmass Truly Invincible. Sequoia's 2011 cria out of Spanish Peaks Banderas is also a vigorous fawn girl (that's 100% girls in case you were counting) with wonderful dense and crimpy fleece character and predictably Sequoia's extremely soft handle. She's a beauty. Sequoia is now retired and is being offered here as a fiber pet. She would also be an excellent guardian as she is the first to approach and alarm call at strange dogs, showing no tolerance. She is also a larger alpaca. Best of all, she is still producing a yarn-worthy fleece with Grade 2 fineness (microns in the low 20s). Discounts available for the purchase of 2 or more alpacas. Sequoia is halter and trailer trained.
