BIG NEWS: 2nd Place Fleece at 2009 AOBA World Fleece Show! Scored 20 out of 20 on fineness and handle. Judged by Cameron Holt. Wow! We had a hunch we might get a gray cria from this pairing, and we were not disappointed. Blue Gate Mixtli already has an amazing rose gray fleece with character and crimp rarely seen in a cria of any color. His fleece looks like a dark rosy cloud so we selected a name that was the perfect match - his name Mixtli is Aztec for dark cloud. Mixtli carries some great color genetics from sire and dam. His sire is our own elite Peruvian stud Snowmass Red Hot Cognac. Cognac carries the bloodlines of some of the finest black alpacas imported into the U.S. from Peru - 5Peruvian Ajoyani and 6Peruvian Silent Night. Cognac has sire several gorgeous dark colored cria. His dam is our Luna Pearl, the first cria born on our farm, and although she is white she carries some great gray color genes from her sire and grand-sire. We thought that pairing Cognac with Luna had the potential to produce a gray and we hit it right on the money. Mixtli is a proud, straight, and gorgeous cria. He demands your attention when you step into the pasture. After shearing his cria fleece we have been very impressed with the consistency of crimp and character in this amazing rose gray fleece. If you are looking for elite fleece in gray with amazing and rare bloodlines this may be the boy for you. Buy him before we change our minds.

Modern Dark rose gray fiber girl

Tejas Belle

HuacayaOpen (Female)Dark Rose Grey
AOA# 30585997DOB: 11/19/200618 yrs
This girl began as a bay black, but began turning after her first shearing. Her neck really turned gray, but her blanket remained indeterminate. Wonderfully soft and fine crimp. Her fleece won Reserve Champion Mixed Fleece at the Houston Livestock Show. Her gray was a surprise, coming back out from several generations back. She carries old bloodlines of Dom Lucilio, Schwarzkopf, Andrajo. Wonderful mom and easy to handle. She is now a modern dark rose gray. 2015 OFDA2000 (9 years) 22.9 AFD, 5.6 SD, 24.4 CV, 23.0 SF, and CF of 91.8! Her first cria was a dark taupe rose gray girl. Her second, a silver gray girl. Her 2014 cria was a wonderful dark brown boy by Tejas Chocoween, my awesome dark brown son of Snowmass Chaccoyo. Born April 16, his fiber is like a cloud. Belle has developed uterine cysts, so she is no longer a breeding girl. She is a mellow girl, and is easy to handle. She will still produce usable fiber for several years. Her mom lived to be 21.

The only dark brown son of Snowmass Chaccoyo, Chocoween follows in his sire's heritage of fineness. His first full fleece was an outstanding 15.1 microns. His 2yr fleece scored a perfect 5, receiving the award for Best Hand at the 2013 TxOLAN Fleece Show. Upon feeling his fleece, judge Sharon Loner immediately said the fleece was under 20 microns. In 2014 TxOLAN Spectacular, Chocoween's 3yr fleece won Champion Dark Fleece! And he also won Dark Fleece Champion at the 2014 ALSA Houston Livestock Show under judge David Barbosa! In 2017, he won first place and Judge's Choice in the TXOLAN Spin-off - with a 6 year fleece! Chaccoween's first cria was born April 16, 2014. A dark brown boy with fiber like a cloud.

Description

It's hard to decide what color she wants to be. Sometimes looks rose gray. Other times silver gray. But very striking face. Sire is Mixtli, my multi-champ gray, and mom is Belle, a modern dark rose gray. Arrietty was bred in 2017, and the PregTone showed she wasn't pregnant, and spits tests were inconclusive, so I thought she wasn't pregnant, and she was sold as a fiber girl. Turns out she WAS pregnant, but lost the cria about 2 months early with the stress of being moved to the new farm, and I got her back. This last summer was brutal, and several mine didn't carry through the summer. Arrietty was one. Will re-breed her. This time, to Remarkable, my new Felix grandson. His mom is grey, and he has the tuxedo markings, so this has a high chance of a grey cria!
