We had our eye on this guy for some time before finally deciding to purchase him from our friends at Paradise Farm Alpacas. Kosmo possesses an elite fleece - incredibly dense, fine, and crimpy with very fine primaries, and his brightness rivals the best white fleeces. But the fact that he maintained those fleece characteristics into a mature age drove us to bring his genetics into our breeding program. With his fifth, sixth, and seventh shearings Kosmo has certainly made his mark in the fleece show circuit. Second place out of nine entries at the 2014 AOA National Show Back-to-back blue ribbons at the 2013/2014 Green Mountain Shows Three consecutive blue ribbons at the 2013/2014/2015 Empire Shows Reserve Champion 2014 Empire Show Kosmos sixth and seventh shearings were also awarded consecutive Spirit of the Fiber Industry Awards at the 2014 and 2015 Empire Fleece Shows. The purpose of this award is to recognize the individual alpaca that holds or increases value by maintaining a fleece of the highest commercial value over time. These traits are recognized as critical to any long-term breeding strategy and include: * Maintaining fineness and handle. * Maintaining an impressive staple length. * Demonstrated good annual harvest weight. * Demonstrated uniformity of crimp/character. * Maintaining visible brightness/luster. * Demonstrated low guard hair incursion into the blanket. * Demonstrated ability to compete and excel against younger fleeces. Kosmo's first four cria are on the ground - Ice Pond Kosmic Cool Dude and Rockin O' Alpacas Ragnar are both out of Reserve Champion Ice Pond Royal Chicclette. Ice Pond Kosmic Dark and Stormy is out of Legacy Gold's Sunshine Halo, and Ice Pond Veteran Kosmic Rocker is out of Chicclette's dam - Glen Ridge Chiccoya. All four of these cria demonstrate the elite fleece characteristics we see in Kosmo. Kosmic Cool Dude was awarded a blue ribbon at the 2015 North American Show, and the three 2015 cria are on the 2016 show strings. Kosmo is available for limited outside breedings.

As her name implies, Chiccoya combines the best of Chilean and Accoyo genetics. She is the daughter of multiple ribbon winners Patagonia's Grace (Nishio sister and member of the foundation herd at Glen Ridge Farm), and Vengador's Accoyo Vaquero (full brother of PCA Accoyo Bolivar). Backing up her pedigree are El Padre, Vengador, Nasahuento's Poppy, and Tayabamba. Even as a cria, Chiccoya was a herd standout - no small feat given the quality of livestock at Glen Ridge Farm. Always striking a pose, she is one of the most upright, graceful, and feminine alpacas we have ever seen. With flawless conformation she presents a calm and confident presence in both the pasture and the show ring. Her fiber has a great handle and density, with good brightness and uniformity of crimp style, in a beautiful deep golden color. Chiccoya's fleece is always one of the first to sell. We are quite pleased with the vigor expressed in the crossing of these top notch Peruvian and Chilean lines. Chiccoya is one of our bulletproof girls - always healthy and problem free. She has now conceived and delivered four cria with only four breeding attempts - and three of those were drive-by, and has been easy to both read and handle. Her confidence allows her to stand quietly for medical procedures and nail trims, even when pregnant. Chiccoya delivered her second cria on September 15, 2010 - a girl by Snowmass Royal Challanger who went on to win a Reserve Championship. Chiccoya delivered her CCNF Archangel cria in June 2012 followed by her PFA Kosmo cria in 2015 and is currently open. Her price reflects both her age and her value as a reliable foundation female.
