Cognac is an Incan alpaca type - very compact, strong boned, and correct in his conformation. He is loaded with ultra-fine colored fleece genetics. Photographs don't do justice to his gorgeous color - he is truly the color of a fine glass of Cognac. With only 10 months of growth between shearings, his fleece weighed in at over 7 pounds. And what fleece it is - you won't find many dark fawn males with 18 micron fleeces. Cognac's sire, 5Peruvian Red Hot, is a Vicuna quality brown male out of the elite North American Alpaca Stud also with an 18 micron fleece. Red Hot's progeny have been consistently winning their classes at the All American Futurity. Peruvian Red Hot has been an integral part of the Snowmass colored program. Julie Skinner notes that Red Hot was born out of Black Peruvian Dam and was such an incredible cria, unrelated to any of the colored alpacas in their program, that they never even dared take him off the farm. Snowmass was able to use him over all the offspring from most other males their herd, to deepen the fineness and consistency of their colored breeding program, placing Red Hot squarely among the top colored males Snowmass has ever used. Cognac is among the very few Red Hot sons available for outside breedings in the country. Of equal importance in Cognac's lineage are his two grand dams - 5Peruvian Ajoyani and 6Pervuvian Silent Night. These are two of the most significant black dams imported from Peru that served as the foundation of the colored herd at Snowmass Alpacas. It is particularly rare to find both of these lines represented in a single male. In 2014 we had to bid a final farewell to Cognac. His genetics are captured deep in our herd and we miss him greatly. We keep him listed here as a lasting tribute.

30998698<--ari-->Light Brown<--color--> Valorie is the dam of Benito and Valkyrie - she is a producer of high quality cria. Valorie is a nice compact alpaca with very good conformation. At three years of age her fleece came in with a micron count of 20.0. She is holding and actually improving fineness in her fleece while nursing and carrying a pregnancy. She is the daughter of Royal Peruvian Valor, a son of Accoyo Royal Fawn, who is standing stud at Alpacas of Tualatin Valley. Valorie is 1/4 Accoyo. Valorie's dam is a true black - giving Val great color genetics. Her dam has produced very fine fleeced daughters with Valorie at 20 microns and her younger sister at 19 microns. Of note is that Valorie is holding her 20 micron fleece even after nursing and holding a pregnancy. These are invaluable fleece genetics. Valorie has proven herself to be a great mom - producing plentiful milk and giving great care to her cria. Valorie has produced four outstanding cria for us. Valorie's first cria is a lt. brown boy (Benito Juarez) sired by PCA Mars, a white son of the great Peruvian Hemingway. Benito has won a ribbon in every show he has entered, including his first color Championship at 10 months of age and took 2nd Place at the AOBA National Fleece Show. Valorie's second cria is a beautiful dark fawn female (Golden Valkyrie) sired by Golden One. Her third cria, Blue Gate Mimosa, is a gorgeous beige female born on 11/10/07. Valorie delivered her third girl in a row on 10/31/08 - sired by Golden One, Blue Gate Golden Pumpkin is full sister to Valkyrie. Valorie delivered her fourth girl in a row! Blue Gate Zenyatta was born the day after her namesake was the first filly to win the Breeder's Cup. Zenyatta was 19 pounds at birth and was racing around the pasture by the time we went to do our morning feeding. At two-weeks she was over 30 pounds. Valorie is such a terrific mom. Blue Gate Mimosa is showing amazing character in her light fawn fleece. Mimosa is the product of crossing Snowmass Red Hot Cognac with Valorie, one of our best production dams. You can read about Cognac on his herdsire page on our site. He is a product of some of the finest dark color blood lines in the elite herd at Snowmass Alpacas. We have been very pleased with his offspring to date. Two of his sons finished 1st and 2nd in their juvenile brown male class in Louisiana. His two daughters born this fall as good or better than those two boys. Mimosa's dam Valorie has produced several outstanding cria for us, all ribbon winning, including a couple of color championships. Valorie is the daughter of Royal Peruvian Valor, a little known but outstanding son of Accoyo Royal Fawn. We liked the combination of Cognac with Valorie so much that we are sure to repeat this breeding. Mimosa produced a fabulous female cria sired by of Snowmass Red Hot Cognac. We have waited several years to try this genetic combination and we are immensely pleased with the result. We are trying this cross on several other females to see if we can continue the magic. As Mimosa has matured she has developed very nice size while maintaining a lovely fleece character. She is an excellent brood dam. We have four of her sisters in our herd so we can part with her at a reasonable price without losing her genetics. Take advantage of a great opportunity to add some fine fleece genetics to your herd.
